Your Commonly Needed Wares

Recommended Posts

Well, if you are here chances are that you use Paint.NET, often. So here is my question: what other programs do you use on a daily basis or what programs do you think are essentials?

For instance, a few months ago I discovered defraggler, and soon after I found Ccleaner. These are MUST have programs for any Windows user and I cannot imagine a day in which I am not using them.

To the Moderators: I searched and did not find a thread similar. I apologize if this has been posted before.

Here's what I use everyday:

Internet Explorer 7

Microsoft Visual Studio

Microsoft SQL Server

Notepad++

Paint.NET

Microsoft Office (Outlook/Word/Excel/sometimes PowerPoint)

Google Talk

McAfee Virus Scanner

TClockEx

Notepad

Calculator

ieSpell

JK Defrag screensaver (The only useful screensaver I've ever found... other than the clock screensaver)

Almost everyday:

Microsoft NetMeeting

7zip

Double-Six Dominoes

Once in a while:

Net Cribbage 5

mIRC

Ad-Aware

CorelDRAW/Corel Photo-Paint

Audacity

I think that's about it.

The topic calls for programs, sabrown... ;)

Following the format of BoltBait:

Daily

Firefox 3

Windows Live Mail

Paint.NET

Inkscape

MediaMonkey

Notepad

Almost daily

OpenOffice.org - Writer, Impress and occasionally Calc (MS' Word, PowerPoint and Excel respectively, and would be if I had Office)

FastStone Image Viewer/Windows Photo Gallery

CCleaner

MyPhoneExplorer

VLC Media Player

Calculator

Adobe Acrobat Reader

7-Zip

PNGOUT

Every so often

ProDesktop

Audacity

Windows Clipping

Notepad++

4OD

BBC iPlayer

Opera

IE7 - I can't be bothered to have a 'rarely' subheading

The GIMP

That be about it, more or less. I do have more applications installed; none worth the mention, too trivial or a given that I use (anti-viruses).

I think not many people know IrfanView

What I commonly use (not in any order):

CCleaner

µTorrent

FireFox

Opera

Windows Live Messenger (personally had to hack it to be able to install it on XP x64)

Windows Live Mail (same)

M$ Visual C# Express 2005 (also have 2008, but it complains a lot for some reason)

Notepad++

PDN of course

CFF Explorer

Liquid XML Studio (nice but full of fatal bugs, and seems like it's written in C#)

Daemon Tools Pro

Wireshark

DivX converter

XVI32 (hex editor)

7zip x64

VLC

VirtualBox x64

Unlocker

WinAmp

µAmp x64

Reflector (Lutz Roeder's .NET reflector)

UltraMon x64 (if that can be called 'using')

RenderMonkey

LateNite (you'd have a hard time finding it with google, it's an IDE for z80 assembly)

Brass (z80 assembler)

PindurTI (TI 83(+) emulator)

VolumeLogic (though that really can't be called using.. it's been discontinued so if you want it, you'll have to get the torrent, it's abandonware anyway)

(Windows XP Pro x64)

and my own programs

probably missed a thing of two..

and of course there are lots of programs that I have that you can not "use" (like games, and passive things like AVG)

I would write plugins, if I knew what kind of plugins were needed.. :(

FF3

PDN(it does open DDS files just not NIF)

WMP

PowerDVD

MediaMonkey

Picasa2

Irfanview

Unlead PhotoImpact 12

Blender

Nero

AVG anti-virus

Kea Coloring Book(for my daughter, nifty little coloring book, and its free :D)

I use 3 different music/movie programs. PowerDVD for movies obviously, and WMP and MediaMonkey for music. MediaMonkey is kinda neat and it reads tons of file types, but its buggy and sometimes slow.

Edit: Fixed a typo ;)
