Hurt and Heal (+ / -) #14: Films - The Departed WINS!

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Resurrection!

Yes, welcome to the resurrection. After loving this game, it was a dissapointment to see it go into what many thought would be a summer long hiatus (David is gone for ten weeks!). So, with some goodwill in my heart I have brought back the good game just until Mr. Atwell comes back. I hope you enjoy this game again, and I welcome any new members to try it out.

The Hurt and Heal Game

Here's the goal:

Make your favorite choice win, and make your least favorite choice lose.

Winning and Losing:

Winning: The first choice that reaches 100 (or the last choice standing) wins, ending the game.

Losing: As each choice reaches 0, it is removed from the list. It has lost.

In the event that only two choices remain, both scores are reset to 50 and the "shootout" begins!

What you do:

"Hurt" a choice by subtracting 10 from its score.

"Heal" a choice by adding 5 to its score.

(You must do both of these in each turn)

Rules:

You may only "Hurt and Heal" once each day.

Once a choice reaches 0, it is gone. You may not re-add it to the list. Let it die an honorable death. :-)

The posted scoreboard comprises the only options. You may not add new options. Discussion will be held before each edition of (+/-); discuss choices there.

If someone "beats you" in posting, change your scoreboard to reflect the change. Be courteous.

Keep it on topic. You can talk briefly about how you chose what to hurt and heal, but take any off topic threads to .

Also, if you have any ideas for the theme for the next Hurt & Heal, post them underneath your scoreboard. That'll make prep for the next one easier.

Everyone clear? All right!

The theme for this Hurt and Heal Game is...

Best of the Best Films!

...Or, should I say the previous ten years of Motion Picture of the Year, straight from the yearly Academy Awards Ceremonies.

Here is the current scoreboard (in chronological order, from 1998 to 2008):

Sorry to disappoint BoltBait, but because discussion of the Hurt and Heal game died away a while, I tried to come up with a generic theme that had: been previously mentioned, appealed to a general audience, and was (for the most part) publicly known. I figured that for a resurrection H&H, those qualities would be most important. Hopefully you understand BoltBait, and hopefully future Hur and Heals under my arm will appeal to you a bit more ;)

@ncfan51: BoltBait would have rather I made a better list of movies instead of using the Academy Award's list. In other words, he is being stuborn :P

Who was so insane and put Shakespeare in love on this list o_O

Anyway:

[50] Titanic

[30] Shakespeare in Love

[50] American Beauty

[55] Gladiator

[30] A Beautiful Mind

[50] Chicago

[50] LOTR The Return of the King

[55] Million Dollar Baby

[55] Crash

[50] The Departed

[55] No Country for Old Men <<--- This was one of the best movies ever.

Anton Sigur is one of the creepiest villains ever. In my opinion, the thing that made him especially creepy, wasn't his cool, unmoved callousness, his love for needless violence, or even that f. awesome shotgun silencer, no, it has to be his f. crazy hairstyle!

In many ways the film was typical Coen brothers', in others, it's a whole new departure for them. I loved it. I even loved that I was left slightly disappointed with the ending. This was intentional, which makes it just a little less disappointing.

Here for those who didn't see the movie, Javier Bardem as Anton Sigur:
