  1. Use Alpha Mask: Alternatively, BoltBait's PasteAlpha does the same thing. Gimp and Photoshop's layer mask are non-destructive while Paint.NET's masking approach is destructive. Whenever using either Alpha Mask or Paste Alpha, make sure to duplicate the original object.
  2. I'm not quite sure what you mean about stylus but for cutting out picture, there are several methods you can try: TR's Alpha Cutter: Using a website called Remove.bg and Paint.NET: The third method is you can use Paint 3D and Paint.NET: Finally, you can use Extract Foreground (Advanced > G'MIC Qt > Contours > Extract Foreground) by downloading and installing the plug-in. The fourth method is all right and I don't use it myself. The Paint 3D method to extract the foreground was a recent discovery when I stumbled across it on YouTube and it blew my mind that we had that on our PC all along and it's free. It does a decent job and is comparable with the results using the Remove.bg and Paint.NET method.
  3. @MylarDaleTolo, In the example given the one with the psychedelics background, it looks like frosted glass was utilized and that is baked in PDN (Effects>Distort>Frosted Glass). The second example used reflected linear gradient set to transparent mode. The tutorial linked by @Djisves can be used with similar approach, except invert when running Gaussian blur. The blur was used on the background and based on the examples, you will have to run the blur within the "glass pane". The question is, what have you tried to do, @MylarDaleTolo?
  4. @BDP I’d love to see your achievement.
  5. Edit: If this is what you are after, I can walk you through the steps, but be warned that it is a bit task intensive. Heck, here's the video in how I did it. Plug-in used for this: Switch Alpha to Gray, part of BoltBait's plug-in pack Alpha Mask This website, remove.bg, is a huge time saver as well.
  6. I also re-read the Op's post again, especially below your second post, and realized that the OP was asking (among other things) about one that would affect opacity, and the only way that can happen is to use BoltBait's Adjust Transparency plugin within Script Lab.
  7. It’s almost like you are describing ScriptLab, one of the plug-ins available but I’m not certain if it’s working in the current rendition of PDN.
  8. First attempt at making a flat landscape. I am certainly no Bob Ross.
  9. I encourage you to purchase Parallel and then go to the support forum at Parallel to find the issue you are having. As indicated several post above, you need to have generous amount of RAM available, otherwise, Windows will bog down your iMac. It’s one of the reasons I gave up on iMac and returned to PC. paint.NET will work in parallel. Installing it is the same as if you were on a PC.
  10. @Rick BrewsterI read through your Twitter feed and it looks like you have integrated some plugins to be permanently part of the future PDN, such as Temperature which I recognized as to be BoltBait’s plug-in.
  11. Enjoy another mind-bender at 7 in the morning. The rainbow torus isn't it. I think I may have seen that tutorial once but as you said, the pictures are gone and without the step by step, it's hard to tell what's going on. Tip: Don't try to do the Penrose triangle while drinking beer. Doesn't work.
  12. @EmmelineSeguin I would not know as I have swore off sports after seeing what has become sports across the world. To all, goodness, it has been a minute since I have last made something in Paint.NET, and I have been busy, busy, and busy. Still above ground, thank be to God, and taking on a new job as Quality Assurance Engineer since this summer. After seeing an Impossible Square tutorial on YouTube, I thought I would see if I can achieve similar effect in Paint.NET, and it is very possible. Only plug-in used was AA Assistant and Align Object. Primitive tools were used and making the shape was simpler than I thought.
  13. Perhaps this tutorial could be of help? There is also this plugin that I have used even though it takes a bit longer and patience.
  14. I downloaded the portable version after discovering that the system administrator blocked the ability to update PDN within the program, and had no problem running the portable version. Same copy/paste issue with Teams, and as @toe_head2001 stated, it is encoding the image using HTML, and as a workaround, I used Windows Snip to capture the image from Teams to be pasted in PDN. Thanks everyone for your efforts.
  15. Unless you have the background layer turned off and saved in PNG format, which retains transparency, we will need to see your layers set up.
  16. Right, Rick, I know that that's why I made a point to tell you that the Paint.NET version was a few version behind. I was thinking that it was an issue within Microsoft's application sharing codes as @toe_head2001 shared below. Since this is not a Paint.NET issue, I consider this thread as "case closed."
  17. One thing I have noticed when using employer provided laptop that has Paint.NET installed, whenever I tried to to copy an image from Microsoft Teams and paste them into Paint.NET, I get a prompt message stating there is nothing on the clipboard. For the record, I have Paint.NET version 4.2.5 installed and IT only allows us to install software through an app called Software Center, so I know it is several version behind the current release. I am only starting this thread to see if anybody else who uses Teams also have encountered similar issue or if it's just me and the laptop I am using. Edit: I just realized I didn't give the steps how it happens: 1. In Teams, click on the image and after it get bigger, right-click on 'Copy Image.' 2. Fire up Paint.NET and try to paste the image. Error message pops up stating no image found on clipboard.
  18. Losing a pet hurt. I never considered myself a cat person until I had to bury my cat last summer. It hit me when I had to lay her in the ground and I was apologizing to her profusely as I never saw her when I got in my truck and drove. My wife and I adopted another cat so that the original cat of the 2 wouldn’t be lonely. It was his sister that I had to bury. Talking about this is making my eyes water so I know how it feels now. Great tribute.
  19. @Mervil I have a couple of tutorials, links below my signature, that shows you how to use Alpha Mask. Even though the masking technique involve a person, the technique is still the same involving text. The basic rule is very simple: Black erase and white keep. That rule has made it easier for me to remember the order of what to keep and delete when it comes to masking. Edit: I had a chance to reread your first post and it looks like you missed a step. After flattening to make a mask, ALWAYS undo (Ctrl + z, or click the Undo button) to keep the layers intact. I suspect that is what was giving you fits.
  20. I have been waiting for custom brushes and smudge to be finally part of PDN for years. I'm sure there are those who have been waiting for a blur tool for years as well. For now, there's this tool, that isn't perfect, but gets the job done.
  21. There is. https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/RectangleSelectionTool.html
  22. You cannot access all layers when writing a plug-in because of how Paint.NET is structured. That is clearly spelled out in what is and isn't possible in the link provided by MJW above, and was also pointed out by MJW, there is a discussion thread which Rick indicated a willingness to "revamp" the plug-in system. So, at this time, you can program the plug-in to access only 1 layer. IIWII.
  23. Wow. The app startup is blazingly fast. Looking forward to more updates to com.
