  1. The outline object plugin with antialiasing?
  2. This is in the wrong section. It should be moved to the Paint.NET Discussion and Questions forum.
  3. This tutorial is available as a PDF. Click here to view or download it Alright, I guess it's about time I make a tutorial. Here's our goal: Another one I made: Of course you could add background or things inside of the ring. Plugins needed: Align Object (optional): http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/4193-align-object-plugin-updated-06172007/ Flip: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/1983-flip-plugin-horizontal-or-vertical-flip-of-selection/ Polar Transformation: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/9364-polar-transformations-plugin-ymd100718/ The following plugins are in pyrochild's pack (link here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/7291-pyrochild-plugins-2012-9-16/ ). If you haven't downloaded the entire pack yet, I recommend you do. They're awesome plugins! Or, you could just download these ones: Gradient Bars: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=4371 Outline Object (pyrochild's): http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=4923 Trail: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=18653 Let's get started. 1. First create an image with whatever size you want; the ring will end up filling the entire canvas. For this tutorial, I will be using an 800 by 600 image. 2. Set your primary color to black and your secondary color to white. 3. Create a new layer, then Effects->Render->Gradient Bars with the scale down to something that fills about an eighth of your image. For an 800 x 600 image, this will be around 0.15. At this point you will have something like this: 4. Select the magic wand tool and set the tolerance to 0. Click outside of your gradient bars and delete. 5. Select the gradient tool. Then in the top left menu, change the gradient mode to the second option like this: 6. Make a new layer. Then click in the middle of your image and drag all the way to the right edge of the canvas. 7. Double click on the layer and set the blending mode to Color Dodge. 8. Click on the layer with the gradient bars and merge it with the white background. Then click on the gradient layer and merge that too. It should look like this now: 9. Repeat step 4. 10. If you have the align object plugin, do step 10a. Otherwise, do step 10b. 10a. Align object, and click the dot under "both." 10b. Drag your gradient bars down into the middle of the image. Make sure you don't move them off the canvas; you can use the arrow keys to move 1 pixel if you're a couple pixels off. 11. Duplicate layer. 12. Follow step 10b, but move the new bars right above the old bars. 13. Press S and select your new bars. Then do Effects->Flip Vertical. 14. Zoom in really close and press M. Move the new bars until they are touching the old bars and it looks like a reflection. 15. Press CTRL+D and zoom back out. 16. Merge the two layers. It should look like this now: 17. Make a new layer and fill it with a color of your choice. This is the color your ring will be. I chose blue, but you can choose whatever you want. 18. Make another layer and fill it with white. Move it below all the other layers. 19. Double click your color-filled layer and set the blend mode to Additive. 20. CTRL+SHIFT+F. 21. Repeat step 4. 22. Go to Effects->Object->Outline Object. (If you have two of them, choose the one with the icon that looks like a little eye.) 23. Set the strength to 2 and radius to 10. Now choose a color that you like. I chose purple, but you can choose whatever you want. It should now look something like this (but maybe with different colors): 23.5. Press CTRL+H. Now run Jitter with a max of about 8 and minimum of 2 or so. You can play around with the maximum and minimum for this one. Then press CTRL+G. (I forgot this step when I made the tut, but it still turned out ok.) 24. Effects->Distort->Polar Transformation. Choose "Transform Rectangular to Polar." Then move the second slider a little down or change as needed until it is centered to your image. Change the scale until it almost fills your whole canvas. 25. Press M and move your ring to the top right corner. 26. Effects->Object->Trail. Change the angle to 255. (Don't click OK yet!) 27. Set the spacing to 0 and play around with the distance until you like it. I used 50, but you can choose whatever you want. 28. Make sure Fade Out and High Quality are selected and click OK. Done! You can play around with this one a ton: on my other ring I added some random saturation and at one point duplicated it and played around with the blend mode. Looking forward to seeing what you can make!
  4. There is a workaround for now. 1. select with m. wand 2. new layer (don't deselect) 3. paint bucket selected area red 4. deselect 5. outline object plugin (100% strength and whatever outline you need), also use red 6. m. wand at 0% tolerance on the red 7. switch back to old layer I use this technique when I am removing a background and a little bit of the background is outlined on whatever you are isolating.
  5. pdnnoob: the 3D-ness looks really realistic, and the continents popping out look really great also. I also like the effect on the word "green." :star: klyek: that looks amazing! I really like the texture on the planet, and the background as well. Totals: pdnnoob x4 klyek x5
  6. Alright, we should get back on topic. Further discussion should go in the discussion thread. Current score --- Welsh: x10 DD: x7
  7. Both of them are great! welshblue's is extremely realistic; The chips are extremely detailed, and the motion effect looks great! :star: :star: drewdale's looks so... surreal. I really like the extensive use of grids and geometric shapes! The brush popping out looks realistic too. :star: :star: Total: Welsh: x10 DD: x7
  8. That's because it's transparent, so you can see the white behind it.
  9. Select the transparency with the magic wand tool. Then press CTRL+i.
  10. 1. white background 2. put images on new layer 3. put text on new layer 4. move text 5. yay
  11. ...hmm, I apparently didn't emphasize the new rule enough. I'll try again...
  12. Tell us a list of the files in your Effects folder.
  13. Instead of selecting each letter individually, you can set the select mode to "Global." It will then select all of the letters automatically.
  14. Hrm. I will add something like that.
  15. Alright, I'll suspend anyone who breaks the rules for 2 days, from now on. Hopefully that'll fix all this madness.
  16. welsh 2 and agjm 0. Welshblue: that looks amazing! It's extremely realistic and each little panel on him is perfect. AGJM: It's a nice effect, but it's just a photo with an effect on it. Sorry, but my vote goes to welsh.
  17. Please ignore that image, it violates the rules of this competition. chimay: That looks great! I like the background and those two line things (I don't know what they are, but nice effect ) nitenurse: It's really good, but it's just somewhat... simple. Not that that's bad, but my vote goes to chimay. chimay 1, nitenurse 1
  18. Nice start! These are good. I especially like that glass cube. :)
  19. Discussion of image battles (link) goes here! This thread is for discussion of the image battles only! If you want to enter an image/vote, please click the link above.
  20. Welcome to Image Battles! This is a competition similar to Signature Battles, but with images. (link to sig battles) Hosted by OddLlama. To vote, rate each competitor out of 5 stars. The first to 15 stars wins the battle. Example voting post: Person1: I really like the glowing thing! The background looks great also. Person2: The border is a bit odd, but I like the firey effect. I just like Person1's more, but yours is great too! Person1: 5 stars :star: :star: Person2: 4 stars :star: :star: Inspiration from Sig Battles, which was originally created by Flow55 -------------------------------------------------------------- Image battles is where you can enter one of your Paint.NET creations against someone else's image. The maximum amount of people that can participate at a time is two, and the first to get three legal votes from other members wins! To start, make sure a battle is not currently in progress, and then enter an image. Then someone else will enter with their image, and the battle will begin! Good luck! Also make sure to read ALL of the rules (below) before entering. -------------------------------------------------------------- Image Battle Rules! Thanks to csm725 and ImAnOwl? for coming up with the original rules! -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The image must be created/edited in Paint.NET. 2. The image size cannot be more than 800 by 600 (or 600 by 800) pixels. 3. If demanded, the creator must link to the render(s) or stock(s) used. (C4D's not included) s 3a. You must say what parts of your image are stocks / renders and what parts are 100% PDN. 4. If you are a participant in the battle, you cannot vote. If you do, your vote will be ignored. 5. When voting you must say who you are voting for, and at the end of the post show the score. s 5a. You can not vote more than once in a single battle. 6. A battle is over when one of the competitors have reached three fifteen legal votes. 7. You may have only one battle of only two people running at the same time. 8. You can't simply say "I like yours better" and give the person a vote. This means you can't have a post like this: CSM: 1 Chrisco: 0 s8a. If you don't have a good reason to vote for someone, then just don't vote. You don't HAVE to post in a thread! 9. You must give a star rating to each image out of 5 stars. 10. If you violate any rule, your vote/image submission will not count and all of your submissions/votes will be suspended for 2 days. -------------------------------------------------------------- This thread is only for posting a image and/or voting! If you want to discuss things about the battles, visit the discussion thread located here.
  21. I don't really know where to post this thread but I guess I'll put it here. I would like a new competition like "image battles" which is basically just two images as a battle similar to sig battles. I don't want to be constrained by the size requirement and that it has to be a sig. Normal battle would be great I originally had a post here: http://forums.getpai...180#entry381639 but nobody ever pays attention to that thread, so I decided to make a new one. Edit: Yes, it should be 800x600.
