  1. Nice tutorial kaunas, very detailed! ^ Naw, you're never wrong when sharing techniques. Whether posted here with images and text instructions or via Youtube and a video tutorial, both ways help others to learn something new and is a good thing.
  2. Whoa this hasn't been voted on in a while, I may as well so the next battle can begin. Both are great pieces as both have depth and metallic textures, 2 things I highly favor. I had to go with Skull's just for the chrome effect on the outer conical portions of that image. It is not an easy effect to pull off but if done right, it looks great! A round of applause for both Drew and Skulls, kudos you two. Skullbonz - 3 Drewdale - 2 Next batter up.
  3. The original image was probably a JPG file. If you can find the same one that's a PNG file, it would come out a lot cleaner as JPG files are compressed and lose some resolution quality in the process. In order to have a clean final image, you have to start with a clean image or you'll spend a lot of time trying to make it look right. I like cutting out backgrounds as it's great for practice purposes.
  4. Right on man, ^5 on the info! I create cars for the game I helped develop for years using this method. It's an art in itself when creating images on a small scale. Here's one I made with the actual size and a zoomed in size for more detail. I create them pixel by pixel which is time consuming but the end result is a clean image. lol note: If this image is too large, let me know and I can make a smaller one.
  5. +1, agreed! Most are glad to offer tips and help when creating stuff but a big aspect to graphic design is that you'll enjoy creating stuff on your own as well Skills071. Don't worry about being good or not as we all had to start at the same point, from the beginning.
  6. When programs randomly stop working and no changes are made by the user when it happened, odds are it's due to a virus of some kind.
  7. >inb4 spammer gets booted back to the topic... Nice tutorial! This gives me an idea on something to create that's on my to-do list.
  8. >inb4 Plug-In of 2013 Award goes to this plug-in... It's very innovative and will allow even beginners to create epic graphics. Thanks Midora! I'm totally gonna make you a flash based siggy as a thank you lol! Couldn't agree with you more on that Drew, the only thing better than beta testing would be creating one but that's definitely easier said than done.
  9. Aw man, sorry to hear that plnsse3. I'm sure whatever Rick mentioned is causing the issue as he built the program. (I need to start doing more app code rather than web based code lol =() Anyhow, there are quite a few articles on Vista users encountering issues and is during the installation. Hopefully these links may help explain it. There are a few users in these threads that definitely know a lot about Vista. Documentation - Installing PDN Font isn't working in PDN / Vista Install compatibility error / Vista File location installation problem solved (German Language)/ Vista
  10. It looks epic Helen especially the depth aspect that the image gives as it really does look 3-dimensional!
  11. Thanks Helen and Sasha! The images you've both created look fantastic, Sasha's even looks like real knitting! I'm thankful the tutorial was helpful as it's a texture I create quite often and wanted to share with everyone so you guys can create it too lol. Cheers!
  12. >InAfterRick... but was totally typing while you posted a reply lol. Hello phsse! Can you provide some details on the type of computer you have and how it's setup? I'm guessing that's Windows 7 by the look of the UI. Also do you have any firewall software such as Comodo which has custom security policies? - The error pop-up says it's trying to read or write protected memory which could be a security policy or firewall rule that's blocking it. The end of the message shows the D:\ drive as the source which normally is a CD / DVD disc drive. When installing PaintDotNet, it should go under the folder it defaults to on the C:\ hard drive. - Try right-clicking on the PaintDotNet installer file and click "Run As Administrator" as shown below.
  13. Thanks everyone as your feedback is hugely appreciated! - Added a note for the "Pixel Grid" on step #1 - Added URL link to the "Image Merging" thread on step #17 - Added "Effects / Adjustments / Images" for tool locations in bold & more details on settings - Revised entire BB code as I did it by hand and had an excess amount of and tags
  14. This tutorial is available as a PDF. Click here to view or download it This tutorial will show you how to create high-resolution carbon fiber textures from scratch like the ones shown below. Feel free to use any method you prefer to get the desired effects if it's easier for you. 1) Start with a new canvas 10 pixels wide by 20 pixels high. Set zoom level to 2100% for a bigger view. "Pixel Grid" is below the "Window" tab and makes section division easy. 2) Use any method to color in 5 areas from dark gray at the top to white at the bottom. 3) Go to "Effects / Blur / Gausian Blur" to blend the areas smoothly. 4) Go to "Image / Canvas Size" and resize the canvas to 20 pixels in width then anchor the base image to the right. 5) Copy the base image but exclude the new area. 6) Paste the bottom half of the copied base image into the new canvas area at the top. 7) Paste the top half of the copied base image to the adjacent section in lower left corner. 😎 Copy the entire image as your new base image and resize the canvas to 40 pixels in width then anchor the image to right side. 9) Repeat step #8 by copy & pasting until you get to 160 pixels in width. Do the same process for the height until the base image is 160 pixels in width and height. You can use the weave plug in if you prefer. I use hotkeys as it's easier for me. CTRL + A = select all CTRL + C = copy CTRL + SHIFT + R = resize canvas CTRL + V = paste 10) Your image should resemble carbon fiber but needs a few touches to look realistic. 11) Go to "Adjustments / Levels" with these settings to make the image darker. Input Output 255 94 --- 1.03 19 0 12) Resize the image from 160 pixels width & height, to 800 pixels width & height. 13) Go to "Effects / Add noise" and set the intensity between 5% to 30% with no color saturation for a variance in the texture surface grain. 14) Go to "Effects / Photo / Sharpening" to enhance the image slightly while giving the vertical lines in the texture a tapered look. 15) Go to "Layers / Rotate & Zoom" and click "Tiling" then zoom out as desired. 16) Add a duplicate layer then go to "Adjustments / Brightness & Contrast" and make the upper layer brighter than the lower layer. 17) Use the Image Merging Tool to fade the top layer onto the bottom layer giving it a more realistic look. For settings, use "gradient / linear / transparency mode". 18) You're done! Even at 500% magnification, the pattern looks extremely detailed.
  15. Both are file types, PSD is indeed for Photoshop. Paint.net does allow you to edit DDS files though. I just have no clue what requires help lol. Jakc, can you give some details on exactly what you're having trouble with? Hopefully one of the other users can help.
  16. Right on Red and BoltBait! I used this plug in for the first time while redesigning my site's R-rated logo from scratch. Came out pretty decent as it has to be scaled anywhere from 400px to 80px while not changing the detail as much as possible. small scale actual image
  17. Both did great jobs as I like the reflections in NN79's siggy but I also liked Dan's theme as I'm also very much into astrophysics. I had to go with Dan's as I love the glowing letters and use that quite often. Daniels - 1 NN79 - 0
  18. Hello xxtea1D! I've played Roblox but I haven't made any clothes for it however I do make game textures and can point you in the right direction. You're going to need a Roblox clothing template which I'm sure they would have on their site. Once you have the template, you can apply any graphics to it using Paint.net like this person is in the video.
  19. Thanks for the input you guys and congrats Drew! I haven't had much time in creating anything decent lately due to work but I did a little bit on my siggy and avatar just now as I felt they were unfinished and used the ideas you guys gave me. I would enter another siggy but for the sake of fairness, I won't so 2 others can as I'd hate to hog all the battles lol. Good luck to the next 2 battling!
  20. Aw man lol.... sorry this is going to sound a bit awkward guys but someone messaged me in response to this thread which is no longer available for some reason. To the person that messaged me in regards to the cursors I made that saw them here (Stanley), Thanks bud as I appreciate it the feedback! =) I did indeed use this plug in to create those (Animated Cursor & Icon Plug-In ver.3.7) and explained it more in "The Pictorium" on my personal posts where everyone posts their creations located here RFX's Stuff In regards to your other question, I don't use Windows Blinds to modify my UI, I use Tune Up Utilities as it's free and does so much more than changing the UI appearance. Hopefully that helps! note: I have no idea if the person that contacted me would check back here however they were very nice and asked a few questions in reference to this thread and how I used it to change my windows themes. I had to at least thank them for the compliments and explain it if they ever return. I'd feel bad if I haden't.

  22. Awww thanks you guys as I do appreciate it very much! Those are just a small amount of graphics I made just recently but these were created for another game called MRO (MiniRacingOnline). A good friend of mine from Portugal taught me a lot about shading and 3-Dimensional effects and these were the result of both our effort. The last 2 images are tracks under construction so you can see how I create templates. 23. @Skull, they have a dedicated site here, LFS.net - LFS is the main reason I got into PDN just to edit DDS files lol. It's up to version 0.6E @Helen, here ya go. I have a lot more but not much time to explain lol. I create or replicate images by first creating templates just like the cursors. This pays off later when I can just apply textures to the template easily and quickly. Below is the steering wheel main body consisting of 4 layers as numbered. When the 4 images above are layered in order with #1 on top and #4 on the bottom, the wheel is done. Image #1 on the left is the default image and image #2 on the right is what was made from scratch. Image #1 is the main dashboard console cluster defailt image. There are more objects but those were unchanged and are cut out of the template. Image #2 uses some parts of the default image that I thought were fine and just changed or created the rest as desired. 24. ^ agrees although in my opinion that program is the one we use, paint.net. (dedicated to graphics editing ) I use it all the time for small scale images with only 2 things, resize with a high resolution setting (usually 500, I donno why but it works for me) and sharpening the image a little. It's a good idea to try all of the suggestions posted as each of them will have the overall desired effect on a task that does sound easy but really isn't. Hope it helps!
