  1. Okay I followed your directions and umm... you know the reason I paste into a different tab is to speed up the coloring because working with the great big image is laggy. Though your post did give me the idea to see if just pasting into a different layer will speed things up the same way.
  2. I umm... an into a couple tiny things that probably aren't worth mentioning. Especially since it didn't occur to me copy the error message. But umm... sometimes when I close out Paint crashes when I close. I generally have a lot of different unsaved images at this time. Second small thing is that the rectangle select stopped working. I would click and get no reaction to my click at all. Other tools worked, just the rectangle, circle and lasso selects wouldn't work. But closing out of that image and reopening it fixed it so small problem.
  3. Sorry I just, when I get embarrassed I have to run away. Anyway here is an example of what I'm trying to do with how I currently do it. The initial image I'm starting with. Selecting the small portion I want to work with. Creating a new window to paste that smaller portion so I can work on it faster without lag. Finished working on it. Pasted now compete portion onto original image. Lining it back into place. I did find an easier way of doing it kind of, I found that a pasted image is always pasted as far upper left as possible. So I can use that fact to paste it right into place. Or I could if there was a way to prevent the image from scrolling automatically when I run the selector box near the edge.
  4. Sorry, didn't mean for it to sound insulting. I'm not very good with, well words. I'll not post anymore.
  5. It shouldn't be too hard to understand. I take a piece out of a black and white picture, put it in another window, color it, then paste it back in exactly where I got it though if you want a picture I can get one I guess.
  6. I just did, It doesn't work. Both in its default and with the values set to all 0.00. I copied the square from the image, leaving the selected area just as it was, pasted this into a new window, colored it, and when I did fill from selection the result was way off. It stayed within the box but it was all twisted and wrong. And I couldn't adjust it at all.
  7. Would I be allowed to ask what some of these updates are? Because I honestly don't know what most of this means. Like whats hardware acceleration?
  8. I was just wondering, are there any like plug ins or anything that would make it so when I copy and and paste an image it is copy and pasted within the selected area? If so that would save my upwards to thirty minutes of work a day.
  9. I guess I could get used to the paint brush and the needing to finish. But there are just so many other small things that really add up. I like to finish at least a page a day, First there was the weird brush thing which is going to take me a while to adapt to if I can. Then there was the coloring thing which I probably can adapt to if I can get into the habit of using the hotkey. Then there is the lack of the freeform shape option which forced me to hand draw with the paintbrush. Then there is the way it doesn't queue up commands.Which slows things down a bit when its getting taxed and backlogged. Though that is made up I guess by it going faster with big images. There is also this feeling of general sluggishness with everything but I'm guessing thats an illusion caused by the way it loads every action in stages. And umm... well thats about it. I could have sworn there were actually a bunch of small things. When I lay it out like this everything save for the third, which is very minor, I could possibly adjust to. Though on the other hand reasons for staying switched to 4.0 are Uses less battery power. Can make changes to the big image easier. Kind of wish there was something that actually helped my *airquotes* "art". Be faster or look better (without taking more time). But there isn't. The choice I have to make is if its worth adjusting to the brush and need to finish just for battery power. Of course I also have to take into account the fact that this is beta and future polish could improve my experience with it. I don't know, the problem is that the biggest factor to consider is an absolute unknown. The state of 4.0 in the future. And it frustrates the heck out of me.
  10. Sorry but I reverted back to 3.5. 4.0 is clearly meant for more complex projects then what I do. And I am guessing its superb for them but in making it so great for the complex projects its made is worse for simple projects. I can do everything with 4.0 that I did with 3.5.11 but its much slower. And I just value my speed and efficiency too much. Sorry. One last thing to add though, The last thing I did before finishing the page I was using to test 4.0 was use the paint bucket in the big image multiple times. I noticed that paint.net would make me wait for a second or two with a loading bar with each click. I feel thats worse then 3.5's way of letting me click everywhere then just sit back and wait for it to catch up. I think that would be better if a painter could keep painting while the loading bar was up and each action just make the loading bar take longer to reach completion.
  11. I just noticed in the shapes you have word bubbles. They would actually be useful if the arrow could be repositioned.
  12. Just noticed another little thing that is slowing me quite a bit, though I have no idea how I missed it before. As I said I use the paint bucket to color in my images after cleaning them up. I just did that on an image and all my colors are wrong. Trying to figure out why I just noticed there is a 'finish' button. That has to be clicked before moving on to a new color. I like painting, changing color, painting changing color in a very as fast as possible procession. This is really slowing me, is there a way to make it 'auto-finish?' I didn't see a way to set that in the options though I may have missed it.
  13. Well you probably don't need it on the tool bar. I don't know why anyone would want this delay, but I doubt anyone is going to alter the 'spacing' much.Since once you get used to something, you're used to it. Its just a lot faster. for me to clean up little marks and spots if the brush is completely immediately responsive to me. But I'm pretty sure I'm an outlier. It looks like most of the tools and default settings are for people fixing photographs or making heavily shaded 'natural' looking images. Which is probably the majority. Where as I, have completely unshaded images. Which also makes me not good at giving feedback since I am in the minority and never even touch 99% of your tools. I scan my pencil drawings, and thanks to some recent advice, I outline them to make their lines more distinct and use contrast brightness to turn the lines 100% black and remove as much of the spots from stray dust, paper grain and pencil bleed through as possible. I then copy 1/12th of my image, make a new image, paste this copy into there. Clean up whatever left over spots there are and fix messed up lines with the paint brush. Then I use the paint bucket and color the whole image. Paste it back into the main image and repeat. And thats it. I don't use enough tools to give any help unfortunately.
  14. It didn't do that with 3.5.11. Why does this version do that? Makes cleaning up an image with the brush kind of difficult. Is there some advantage to it doing this I'm not seeing?
  15. About the brush though, I'm assuming its some sort of wierd drag effect? Because the real thing thats annoying is that when I'm running the brush over an area to clear up some sports or a rough edge the the area actually being colored seems to be halfway behind the circle. No matter which direction I'm going.
  16. Thank you. And I believed that it wouldn't hurt my computer if t was bigger and stronger and not being used by me. But my computer is a small little laptop, and its getting old. Its already a year old. And everything I touch usually makes my computer explode somehow. And that last fact means everything new scares me.
  17. two small things Umm... first for some reason when I copy and pasted an image little grey pixels appeared surrounding all of my black lines. How do I stop that? Second the brush is effecting pixels outside of the circle even at hardness 100. Its slightly disorienting. Am I doing something wrong am I just going to have to get used to that?
  18. Alright I did the update and my computer didn't explode. Thats good.
  19. Okay so not something that effects me. If I try 4.0 and find it unusable would it be possible for me to undo the change?
  20. Well to avoid risking accidentally saving my image when its cropped I've instead just started copying a small portion of the image then opening a new page pasting, coloring it then copying and pasting that finished potion onto the original image. That way I only have to try to fit one piece onto the image instead of trying to line up 12 separate pieces.
  21. I ask rather then just 'try it out' because, if I just try it out, without any knowledge of it. Then there is a good chance that I'm just going to use it wrong, decide its worth it and revert. If you've seen some of my other threads, you'll see that I don't know what a tenth of the stuff in paint.net does or how to use it. And what I have been doing are extremely overcomplicated inefficient methods of doing things simply because I had no idea how to properly use the tools.
  22. That, actually worked pretty good. Won't know absolutely until I color it in but that was way simpler then what I normally do and really effective it looks like.
  23. You said it trickles in umm... does that mean I could like put through all the commands I'll need to color a page, then flip over to something else while it carries on my instructions in the back ground? And if so will it have an emergency stop button? So if I miss click like a global paint a few dozen times in a row before realizing I've misclicked I won't have to wait for it to finish going through?
