  1. But.... Doesn't that mean that the effect is done extra well? 101% is better than 100% isn't it? For example, imagine you go to the best pizza joint in Boston, you order your favorite pizza and expect that it will be 100% perfect like it always is,but NO! This time they have outdone themselves and its 101% perfect! Wouldnt that be wonderful??? See, the way I see it is that not only is it done BETTER, its done so fast the progress bar has too much momentum and slides out of the end of its little box, this isnt a bug! Its telling you that your work is not only finished but that its better than you thought it was going to be!
  2. I can't find any bugs in 4.0.3!!! Not even one! THANK YOU! This is splendid!
  3. Hya everyone, I have this problem too. Rather than posting the same stuff all over the place I will plop links to the two others in here since this seems to be the place: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/28931-paintnet-40-windows-8/?p=412475 And: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/28796-paintnet-40-is-now-available/page-4 This way I make less of a mess than I was well on my way to making. I did notice that a few people have similar configurations in the list of stuff above. For things attached I have: A USB Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000. A USB Wacom Intuos 4. And 3 TB of USB hard drives. No docking, no extra monitors. If you want the Diagnostic stuff let me know but its in those two links above... Cheers! Mealea PS: I should point out that I have an acer and it looks like MrVoxel has almost the same thing I have. If that is the case we both have TWO video cards, one is an Intel HD 4000 and the other is the Nvidia, though it looks like I got lucky and have slightly more ram in mine.
  4. Hi, and thanks! I read that post and as near as I can tell I meet and exceed all the requirements. Im not totally positive about that but it seems like a one year old computer should be able to cope. Windows 7 SP1 or newer is now required. I think I exceed this a little, though I would kill to revert to Windows 7. (seriously, screw 8 its hidious). .NET Framework 4.5 is now required, and will be installed if needed. I have what ever the latest is, it gets updated with all the other windows stuff I think. I do not know how to check this though, 4.5 is its default and its been updated many times. A dual-core (or more!) processor is highly recommended. I have 8 cores, no worries there. Hardware acceleration (GPU) via Direct2D is now supported. I have a great GPU, but it does seem to be the source of the issue. I also have a second GPU,its an Intel and it works fine as well. I do not know what Direct2D is however, thats something I will look up. Please disable this in the Settings dialog if you experience visual artifacts. I did that and it "fixed" whatever is happening, is that a workaround rather than a fix? I am working on a laptop that has two GPU's, one is an Intel HD 4000 and is for low power consumption, light graphics and so on, it works flawlessly with PaintDotNet (with acceleration on as well). I also have a nice Nvidia GeForce GT 650m with 2GB of ram that is for all the big fun stuff like 3D programs and generating trillions of particles in real time and other stuff like that. The NVidia works great with just about everything except PaintDotNet's new hardware acceleration and I am curious about that. The Intel graphics are not having this problem and yet it is a far far lower end thing. So is the Nvidia not up to using hardware acceleration or is this a bug? One other thing, I put this post into the bugs and trouble shooting section, sorry if it doesn't belong in here. Cheers! Mealea
  5. I have this problem too, I suspect its a problem with my Nvidia card cause its ok when I switch to the Intel one. --- I have an Acer laptop that has two video cards between which I can switch at will (vey nice feature), the intel one works fine with any settings, but I get the same problem: Screen flashes and flickers like an evil strobe light and little dots spew out of the mouse when I move the cursor. Turning off hardware acceleration fixes it with the Nvidia card, and using the Intel card fixes it completely. My question is how much am i missing (as I ask below). Anyhow, here is my original post that I plopped into the wrong place on this site: Hi everyone! I JUST upgraded and ran into a problem which is bad, but I fixed it which is good! Instant mood swings! YAY! Here's the info from PaintDotNet about itself and the computer I am working on: Application paint.net 4.0 (Final 4.0.5288.36565) Build Date Tuesday, June 24, 2014 Hardware accelerated rendering (GPU) True Animations True Language en-US OS Windows 8 (6.2.9200.0) .NET Runtime 4.0.30319.18449 Physical Memory 8,010 MB CPU Intel® Core™ i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHz Architecture x64 (64-bit) Process Mode 64-bit Speed ~2195 MHz Cores / Threads 8 Features DEP, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4_1, SSE4_2, XSAVE Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M Dedicated Video RAM 1,986 MB Dedicated System RAM 0 MB Shared System RAM 2,048 MB Vendor ID 0x10DE Device ID 0x0FD1 Subsystem ID 0x06861025 Revision 161 LUID 0x00009B0E Flags None Outputs 1 Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M Dedicated Video RAM 1,986 MB Dedicated System RAM 0 MB Shared System RAM 2,048 MB Vendor ID 0x10DE Device ID 0x0FD1 Subsystem ID 0x06861025 Revision 161 LUID 0x00009CC5 Flags None Outputs 0 Video Card Microsoft Basic Render Driver Dedicated Video RAM 1,986 MB Dedicated System RAM 0 MB Shared System RAM 2,048 MB Vendor ID 0x1414 Device ID 0x008C Subsystem ID 0x00000000 Revision 0 LUID 0x00009C6B Flags Software Outputs 0 What is happening is that under the initial instal the window turns black, flashes on and off like strobe light when I move the mouse, and the cursor leaves little dots all over the place. What I did to fix it was turn off hardware acceleration in the UI section of settings, its an instant fix. HOORAY! I am curious about what I might be missing. Is having to turn this off going to cost me some gigantic amount of performance? I love this program by the way, I use it constantly and recommend it to everyone. Hope that stuff above is helpful. If needed I can send along screenshots, though they are tricky to do while moving the mouse! Cheers!! And happy 4th of July! Mealea

  7. Well thats odd.... Thanks very much for the help, I must be misreading things somewhere.... Im going to have to dig into this a bit I guess. Cheers, and thanks again, Mealea
  8. ooo... The dead thread thing, I read about that a while ago but the one I was in seemed sort of new-ish... Ok Sorry! I am a nincomepoop! Thank you, I had this creeping suspicion I was messing something up. Im looking at that plugin now, it looks cool but I think its not what I am after.... Im not after transparency, I can do that with ease in Paint.Net. (YAY!) What I need is direct access to the alpha channel like I have access to layers so I can paste an image into it. The thing I am using, Opensimulator, is a 3D environment in which you can do pretty much whatever you want, its like a game engine but more geared to creativity and education. What I am trying to do is use the RGB channels to provide color information and the alpha channel to provide a bump map that I wrap around a 3D object. So for example if I have a 3D head I would use the color information in the RG and B channels to define the color of the skin, and perhaps things like blemishes and moles and stuff, I would use the bump map (called a normal map) in the alpha channel to enhance this with things like pores, wrinkles and some bumpyness to the blemishes if any (darn those pesky blemishes!). Is that possible? [EDIT: That plug in IS cool! Its not what I am after but its terrific and very interesting] Thanks for the help you guys! Cheers! Mealea
  9. Hya everyone! Im not sure if Im supposed to ask this here but I don't know a better place... It seems like one big thread is better than a bunch of little ones. Right? If I have two images, one is a texture map and the other is a normal map, how do I essentially paste the normal map into the alpha channel? The stuff I am importing into (OpenSimulator) uses a single image to put texture and normal map information onto an object but so far I can't see anywhere to create the alpha channel. I am not using the alpha channel for transparency, which seems to be a source of confusion (elsewhere). The thing is I CAN use it for that (transparency I mean) simply by making part of my image transparent (This is splendid by the way, and is yet another reason why I adore Paint.Net), this implies to me there are alpha channels or that the transparency thing is something different. Does any of that make sense?
  10. I have something that SOUNDS like what is happening to you I reported it here: I hope this helps. Cheers, Mealea
  11. Hya everyone! I have been having a strange and rather tricky problem that make Paint.net seem to freeze when it in fact has not. What is happening as it turns out is that sub-windows or "modal dialog" boxes such as the ones that pop up for effects and filters and even for saving things like .jpg files are opening behind the main window where they are nearly useless. Using the task-manager [EDIT: Alt Tab, sorry, my mistake] to bring them forward does not work but is how I figured this out because I could see them with it. This usually happens after I have been working for a bit and actually want what I have made. So being a persistent little snot I figured out a way around it sort of: When it happens the first time its time to save and quit so I do this: Hit ESC to get out of what ever filter or what ever else I was using (this works for some reason so far). Shrink the main window. Shove most of it off my monitor to one side or the other. Hit save or save-as depending on what I'm up to. Having the main window way off to the side forces the pop up windows to come up somewhere useful as they seem to like being centered in my monitor. Oh yah, Im running 64-bit Windows 7 on a 4GB laptop with an ATI video-card (Radeon HD 4250). Anyhow that's about it, if there is anything else that might be useful please let me know, I bet other people have seen this and thought like I did that paint.net had frozen. Cheers! Mealea
