I had been trying to install Paint.net for almost a year off and on running Windows XP Pro. I had it installed in the past but had to reinstall my OS. Every now and then I would try a few things with no success and couldn't find any answers online that would work for me. It would start unloading files after clicking the install button, I would then see a little flash of a new screen for a split second, and that would be it. Nothing would ever come up on the screen after that no matter how long I waited. So one day after trying it in safe mode with no luck I decided to try booting up in VGA mode. Worked like a charm. I just purchased a SATA drive and decided to install my OS on that and had the same problem all over again even after a fresh clean install and updating service packs, Dotnet, etc. Booted up in VGA mode and again worked like a charm. Go figure.....
