  1. My calendar only has 29 days this month ... This competition is tricky.
  2. Paint.net does not support pressure sensitivity at this time. You can probably do some work to remove the aliased parts of brush strokes/line draws, but many find using other applications for this level of control over drawing to be the solution. Then importing those base creations back into Paint.net for final processing/blending.
  3. learning to be an artist even though people tell me I'm not - and I'm hearing it more now than before I started ...maybe I really should switch to dev

  4. Nice one. Makes the eyes wander around to examine the whole.
  5. I'm afraid I lack the knowledge of how to correct for something like that after spending some time trying what I thought might work (most of which is comprised off your efforts and the tools listed by Noob.) The samples should help though. Thanks for posting those. Best regards,
  6. Its a plugin you need to install. LINK: How to install plugins LINK: Plugin List for reference on others you may need LINK: BoltBait's Feather... keep in mind there is both Feather Selection and Feather Object ... Two different feather implemntations, this link is the for the one listed above.
  7. In my fast test I didn't like the result of drop shadow. Redoing it just now it does seem to offer a simpler interface. As for alpha-masking? He describe a specific want, so I literally translated that. If the background was a gradient or if he wishes to reuse the layers on top of something else, I sort of figured knowing how to get that result may be useful ... Of course I'm answering a rhetorical question probably ...
  8. SUPPR refers to the delete key. In pure context it is the delete key found in association with ten-key pads. I dont recall where that comes from, but that's what you need to use.
  9. Too many to comment on. Excellent body of work though. Great use of the kaleidoscopes and some wonderful blending here and there. Not sure on the improvements to the charcoals, but that is something you have to be careful with else you destroy the original hand in them. Thanks for taking the time to share them up.
  10. If either of the outline objects dont quite work out, try using a blur (like gausian) in a low pixel radius on the text as well for the mask you want to cut out. Not sure on the resulution you're working at but outline object can/possible create a crisp outline that you may or may not see on smaller canvas ... This can also extend the outline in really small steps, like 1 pixel at a time that could be helpful. And you're most welcome. Sounded like something I could figure out at least.
  11. Use outline object and alpha mask to cut out the area you want to bleed through. 4 layers in order of descent: Mask object: Small text with outline object applied. You will copy this to clipboard. Small text: The text you want to sit on top of the other text. Background text: The large background text. Background color: The color you want to bleed through. Basically make the top layer by duplicating the small text. Apply the halo around it using outline object to your taste. You are going to actually want to do black on black for this. Copy that layer to clipboard. Use Alpha Mask then on the background text to create the cutout. I would suggest matching alpha or you'll get some AA issues. It should bleed though now. Just make sure you turn off the top layer of course. You can also just fake this by matching the color and using one of the outline objects to create that bleed through effect. But in case transparency is important, the actual cut out method is what I started with. Fast example image using the Alpha Mask ... halo is too large, but meh, it illustrates it:
  12. Either wrong layer (doubtful) or wrong tool. Move selection and move selected pixels do different things. Move selection describes what you are seeing. Which just moves the selection box and doesn't affect the image pixel at all. Could be from having run out of memory, but this seems to be less common of a problem as everybody buys newer machines. I've had all sorts of issues from running out of memory, but not that one.
  13. Good concept work on the logos. So did you just ditch Windows completely and thats why the shift to Gimp?
  14. Shame on the sickly machine. While the speed is missed, thankfully PDN doesn't really have limits (yet) based on graphics cards etc. Some nice impressions. I like #9 and #1 the most right now. The feel of a windstorm and titalwave combination made me have to stop and ponder it a while.
  15. @SB: Cinema 4D by Maxon ... It's animation/3D software that can produce some pretty interesting chaos math in solids. Similar to fractal flames but with its own "signature" of sorts. Do a google image search on just c4d and you'll see the base texture ideas that have been used here. @DUG: Nice adaptations from the c4d into something a little less chaotic ... Though your impressions could hardly be considered lacking in chaos on other levels. Rust never sleeps is almost spooky. The signature of nature eating our refuse etc.
  16. God texture work. The impression of the previously debated oversized image is good for a desktop splash.
  17. The original image for step 2 was a duplicate. Now its just broken ... On the resize suggestion, I'd just go 50 or 60% reduction, otherwise you are going to distort the image as the dimensions are not proportional ... Though I often find taking screen captures of the reduction to be cleaner than what the methods provided do to the image ... Just trivia there. It causes me a lot of heartache to find artifacts when the visual 50% and the image reduction 50% dont match. I've used Xor and other things to verify I'm not wishing it differently mind you. Thanks for taking a couple of refinements on it. Hopefully that link for Step 2 can be replaced soon. Thankfully these can be edited and updated with whatever feedback comes your way. The filetype can vary but typically the jpg will be better quality and similar size reduction. Though in some cases a PNG is actually capable of being smaller. Depends on final use as well of course. Some places only accept certain filetypes and all that.
  18. Very nice. Like the subtle aspects of the sig plate. The space scape is a good combination. Was hoping to not see the PS annotation, but I'm not dismissing the blend at all. The planet in trail especially is a really neat idea.
  19. Excellent example of hyper-realism. Well done mate. I think I've a good idea on how you did parts of it but not all of it. If you have it in you, some form of tutorial on where you started with that blend would be much appreciated by many.
  20. /removed content that should have been in the discussion forum.
  21. Having used other programmes over the years, .gif is one of those things that can be done in several different manners. I dont recall in Photoshop exactly on this, but I recall it's focus on the .gif was to compress the daylights out of it as they considered it a "web only" format and space/speed being the focus there. Adobe's approach to some was considered a blessing and curse in that respect. To further state without the finite details I hope someone else has, the method of .gif compression between Photoshop and PDN is different, but I dont know how to explain how/why or which algorithm(s) are being used to be more specific on it or how to match it up. Like many other file types it is considered "best effort" on many levels ... I saw a discussion before when looking for something unrelated that specified this difference but I dont recall if it was here or elsewhere ... And I'm not finding it with search in the top 100 results ... And while it's not immediately covered by wiki, you can see that options for what is saved, etc in the .gif format can vary and thus effect size of the final image ... Looks like you could do a hex editor comparison of the two files and see what's included/excluded ... Or maybe somebody else has an answer to this that is simpler.
  22. A "drive by" critique? Of course with 6 fingers involved I now have lines from The Princess Bride floating through my head ...
  23. In the lower right hand corner for the post you wish to give reputation to is a small green ball with a plus symbol in it. That will add reputation for the post and the poster combined. As illustrated in this picture:
