  1. @ yellowman - Boltbait's 'Transparency' plugin is always useful - the only slight advantage of this, for this job, is that it is in the effects section rather than adjustments, so if used on multiple layers the icon appears in the top 'apply last effect' section.

    @ midora - I had'nt thought of doing it that way, clever!

    @ Rick - I meant no criticism of the default selection behaviour. Just thought I'd share my soloution to this task.

    As you can see from the code, I didn't waste too much time writing it, and now we have 4 ways to do it. ;)

    @ barbieq25 - not as much fun (or as complicated) as some of my others I'm afraid, but it does what I wanted.

    Thanks for saying thanks. :)

  2. Hi Rick,

    Yes you can - I think it's easier to just click on one icon and have the selection clear rather than expanding the color window, then changing the primary color - then changing it back again - I did say I would probably be the only person using it!

  3. Selection2clear [makes the selection transparent, whilst leaving the selection active]

    Hello all,

    The problem: I spend ages isolating a complex selection, I delete the selection on one layer, move to the next layer to try to delete the same selection - but the selection is gone!

    (This doesn't happen with 'fill selection' - only with delete. It caused me problems because I was trying to shape a cloud made up from many layers all interacting via different blending modes. Thought I'd try just changing the top layer and then use 'Alpha mask' on the other layers but Alpha mask didn't work for some reason - maybe due to the layer blend modes or because the transparency of the different layers were not fully opaque?)

    The soloution: My simplest plugin yet! - select something, click 'selection2clear' (under Effects/selection), problem solved, selection clear but still active so I can now change layers and repeat the action.

    No UI screen shot as no UI !

    I'm probably the only person that will use this but if you encounter the same problem here's the .dll

    And here's the code for in-depth study!

    for (int x = rect.Left; x < rect.Right; x++)

    {

    ColorBgra CurrentPixel = src[x,y];

    CurrentPixel.A = 0; // now preserves BGR values as suggested by BoltBait

    dst[x,y] = CurrentPixel;

    }

    }

    }

  4. Hello greyraven8,

    I would recommend the 'circle text' plugin http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=16347 to create the text in a semi- circle on it's own layer.

    Then use 'rotate/zoom' (under layers heading) to manipulate the semicircular text into a semi-ellipse.

    [You may find it easier to first distort the bridge into a semi-circle - then add the text layer - then distort back to the origianal shape.]

    Reflecting this shape can be done by duplicating the text layer - then flipping the layer over a horizontal axis (under layers) - then lining it up with rotate/zoom layer again.

    Hope that helps - and that my explaination is understandable! ;)

  5. Hello all!

    Thanks for all the positive remarks (and the encouragement you've given me with the plugins too).

    @Helen - many thanks - I'm really a 'Surrey-ale- ist' meaning I live in Surrey and prefer ale to lager :beer::D

    @EER - I was going to go on at length about the role of Iron oxide based pigments in sacred cave art - thruth is, I tried Englishred - but the username was taken - (red ochre = English red = Venetian red = sanguine = rust = blood etcetc).

    @Jim - thanks - I prefer the control of pencil too - hence trying to evolve a technique of scanning in drawings then manipulating them. - your photo manip's are great btw.

    @Barbieq25 - thanks - I'm not really wicked but decided to play up to it since 'rock'nroll' misread my username as red ogre!

    @doughty - thanks too - Re: colour(color?)/mood - I find sometimes less is more - if you start from a very muted palette of colours you've always got somewhere left if you need something brighter + always good to experiment.

    @welshy - hope that shoulder gets better soon - glad your using 'overblur' - used a bit of that on the figures in 'evensong' to try to get a metallic feel.

    To all - it was your galleries that showed me what a powerful program this is - many thanks :D

  6. Hello Dug,

    No-one is older than teabags - they grow that way don't they! :lol:

    I just tried the gallery link in your sig but it seems to be broken?

    Many thanks for the encouragement with my plugins.

    Now - your gallery ... brilliant - I've been meaning to say that for months. I particularly like the the recent ones especially 'crash landing','Rock quail' and 'Intergalactic scrapyard'. You're getting a nice surrealist feel to them, which I love. And I think your sense of colour (color?) is improving too - some of the very early ones were a bit too garish for me, but you seem to have more control now. Technically you're doing some pretty impressive stuff - very inspiring - keep up the good work! :star:

  7. Hello 88keys,

    If you just want to 'paint' with a transparent colour then there is a slider in the 'more' section of the color window.

    If you want to replace an existing color with transparency, you could try my 'Recolour choice' plugin here...

    http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/24584-recolour-choice-new/ or in my pack (link in sig).

    Or you could use the magic wand to select, then fill selection (with the transparent color as described above).

    - I'm sure there are many other ways too!

  8. Hello TommyToxen,

    You sound frustrated ! - I'll do my best to help.

    1.Are you putting text on a new layer? - it's best to, as this makes it easier to move later.

    2. If you have a 'selection' active (highlighted pale blue), you can only work within that selection. - Try Edit/ deselect.

    3. If you are moving things and revealing the 'chequer board' pattern (represents transparency), then you've probably put everything on one layer?

    4.If everything dissappears when you click in the history window - you've probably clicked on the undo all icon instead of the undo last thing icon.

    These explainations are just my guesses - but if you read through the help files (press the F1 key) and get to understand layers, i think you'll solve most of your problems.

    If not, then ask again - all programs take some getting used to.

    I can assure you this is a very well designed and capable program and the problems you have described don't sound like a major problem with the program.

    But, as ever, I could be wrong!

    All the best (don't kick the monitor in either!) :smile:

  9. Ha Ha - beat me to it!

    I was revamping one I started ages ago, but didn't finish.

    It's got a working angle slider and an ellipse/squirkle option ! - but still work in progress .

    Oh well!

    ( I can PM you my source if you're interested in incorperating the angle in yours) :smile:
