Hi Sarkut, I searched some more about this problem in the trouble shooting and bugs forum (where a newbie would fear to tread) and found a post by ggom from 8 Nov 2010. It describes a similar situation to the one I'm experiencing. That prob was caused by using a full point < . > in the file name, something I've done for years and was using for my tests of Paint.Net. I replaced the full point with an underscore < _ > and tried again. It looks like that may have fixed the issue. Can the fix be that simple? Thanks. TimCee

Have just started using Paint.net. I've opened a few .jpeg files taken with a Canon EOS450D, made some simple changes and 'saved as' the default file setting = .jpeg etc. I get a progress bar which suggests the application is saving the file OK. Then, I can't open these 'saved as' files either from within Paint.Net or by double clicking them and telling Windows to use Paint.net to open them. Paint.net alert message says: "The image type is not recognized, and cannot be opened." Same happens if I 'save as' .tif format. Files show up as a generic 'file' in Explorer or on the desktop - they don't have the regular .jpeg icon against them. Files are about half the size of the originals though they have not been cropped. I'm running XP Home SP3. Don't get the problem if I do a straight 'save'. File reopens OK. Guidance appreciated. Thanks.
