  1. Ego Eram Reputo Thanks for confirming that. Frank PS sorry about mis-posting!!
  2. Am trying to follow this tutorial: At 1.41 he selects "alpha mask" Can some one tell me which plugin this is - which one of these from the index: Alpha Mask Import (1.2) - Illnab1024 Turn an image into an alpha mask. If the image has color, it is converted to greyscale. Alpha Transform 1.1 - DW-dev Pixels below the lower limit get alpha set to 0 (fully transparent). Pixels above the upper limit get alpha set to 255 (fully opaque). Pixels in between get alpha between 0 and 255 depending on their brightness. Alpha Transform v1.0 - DW.dev Superseded by a later release: Alpha Transform 1.1 AlphaMask Brush v1.7 - Simon Brown No longer supported: draw an alpha-mask directly onto an image. Thanks, Frank
  3. EER: Sorry didn't realise I was in tutorials. Frank
  4. Hi All: Have been using the program with much success though I am not anywhere near expert. So small things tat don't work drive me crazy (and waste so much time!) So I know there is a simple answer to this but I can't work it out. The problem: I open a new background - 1440 x 600. Then import my image (in new layer) - 1350 x 280. Now I want to put some text or arrows pointing from the background to the image but I can only write/draw on the imported image not the background. Have tried merging to no effect. I know this is an elementary thing but am wasting time trying to figure it out - so someone tell me where I'm going wrong!! Much appreciated, Frank
  5. OOps sorry didn't realise i had posted this in the wrong forum. The square brackets do work for this - they take the size of the brush up or down. It works too quickly for what i want to do so I will have to look for another solution. Thanks for the link Sarkut. Frank
  6. wit a name like omurchu.. just curious to know what part of thw world you from eh?

    regards j.d.

  7. I want to try this effect with the paintbrush - as you draw it will go from thick to thin or vice versa. In this video, the author says to hold the square bracket key as you draw. This has no effect for me. Is there a different key to achieve this? www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZoWz_owZX0 Thanks, Frank
  8. Hey thanks - pressing escape worked. Will make sure to add descriptive titles next time - Frank
  9. Sarkut Thanks for the reply. Here's what I tried: Set image size as you outlined. I put a gradient (from black to white (top to bottom)) on this. New layer, then imported my image (which fills left half of the layer.) So far so good. New layer. Clicked text button - now I don't see any text when typing ( though the cursor is moving.) I am sure this is an elementary mistake, but where am I going wrong?? Thanks for the advice, Frank
  10. Hi All: I am completely new to graphic design and Paint.net. I want to make a few graphic files with an image on one side and text on the other - like the one here: http://www.slidedeck.com/ Don't think this is too complicated, so can anyone point me to a tutorial that will run me through the process? I presume I will be working with layers? I have only cropped and re-sized so far so all help/hints/tips much appreciated. Thanks, Frank
