  1. Thank you for your comments. #nitenurse79 -- Exactly, I just found out about this, and for a certain project, where print quality is rather important, the png issue came along. #Rick ---- So does that also mean, (despite of the little token remembering the distinction, like you called it) that I could even save a photo in jpeg format today and tomorrow work on it and then save it as a png. And vice versa perhaps again. And when printing the final image, that was then saved again in a png format, that the print quality would be as could as of one that was always only saved in a png format? And it's the print quality I am concerned about. I would have thought as Paint.Net is asking for different information when saving an image as a jpeg or a png, that somewhere on this path, some quality would be lost. (?)
  2. Hello there, I hope someone is kind enough to help me with the following question: A photo (a complex one with different layers) that was originally saved as a jpeg (100% quality) but after changing its size, saved as a png, is now used on another png photo. When saving the end result as one photo with the png format as well, is that going to cause problems^^ with regards to print quality or not? ^^ As it basically means a kind of mix and matching of jpeg and png formats. Many thanks for your help.
  3. Not sure why it's doing that, but either way I found a solution to avoiding it. By using 'insert', 'image', 'from file', it shows at the correct size.
  4. I have a 825 pixels x 1125 pixels photo, 300 pixels/inch, making it a size of: 2.75 inches x 3.75 inches. However when I prepared to print this: i.e. copying the image and pasting it onto an open office file or microsoft word file (as I need to safe a file with photos for the printing shop), the size of the image shows as almost covering an entire A4 sheet. Why is that and not the set size?
  5. Many thanks Rick. I was hoping that this would be the case, but needed the correct clarification, problem solved, thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
  6. Hi there, I am in the middle of a huge project and all of a sudden have a major concern. When I am using layers and the background is a photo of the colour blue (rectangular shape). Now as a new layer, I am pasting another photo (a smaller rectangular shape) on top, with say a car in the middle. Then saving this 'montage' as one jpeg. Now, when printing this image, would the blue colour that is physically under the smaller car photo shine through underneath? Or would it only print and use what is physically shown, despite me knowing that underneath there is another darker colour? Thank you for clarifying. (As the end result should just show the smaller rectangular photo with the car and that one being surrounded by a blue border.) N.B. Please note I am asking, rather than just testing it by printing, as I am not using a printer, and would need to drive somewhere to test this, which I like to avoid. Thanks for your help to clarify this. It's possibly quite obvious but with not knowing it's a major concern for my project.
  7. Thanking you all for your replies and input, spreading some light on my query. I will work through all the answers and try to apply your information accordingly, many thanks.
  8. I hope someone is kind enough to help me with my questions: A) I am using a 825 pixel x 1125 pixel, 300 dpi photo (poker card size) which shows in the 'resize window' a printed photo size of: 2.75 x 3.75 cm. However when viewing the photo in painnet on the screen, the ruler on top, shows something totally different. A#1) Is it correct, that the ruler displayed, needs to be ignored, as it's not actual cm or inches? A#2) Is it correct, that the size of the photo will be the one shown in the resize window only? (Though I have experienced a discrepancy when printing, too). B ) On the above mentioned 825 x 1125 photo I need to place another photo. The size of that photo is in pixels: 213 x 312 pixel, 28 dpi. Now, when I place this smaller photo onto the poker card size, it's displayed, as if you place a stamp onto an A4 sheet of paper, despite of the poker size actually only being 0.75 cm wider and the height being only 0.29 cm larger on each size. B#1) Why am I experiencing such a discrepancy? B#2) Is this normal, as the computer screen displays it differently, or am I doing something wrong? My apologies for any confusion, it's difficult to describe, as I don't really understand what's going on with this, and so might be describing it wrongly or from a wrong angle. Who can help? Thank you.
  9. I need to use a template photo and onto that one add two more photos, by adding two more layers. Then I need to delete the original (background) one, which would be the template. However when I delete it, the entire picture gets deleted, i.e. also the photos I pasted on top of it. How can I avoid that? Additional information: Very strangely when adding a new layer, though in the layer screen it shows that I am adding them, when I paste the first photo onto the background, it then becomes the background image, rather than layer number 2. Would someone be able to help me with this? Many thanks.
  10. Unfortunately this doesn't work though for any object that has more than one area around it. e.g. a horse standing on the ground has background around (mainly above) but also underneath in a second, separate background section. Hence the Ctrl I delete doesn't work then , any suggestion how to apply that solution to this, himself 22 ?? Many thanks for your ideas.
  11. Thanks, but I just worked through the suggested solutions once again. There I realized that the instructions from himself22 below actually include what I was referring to as well, i.e. after the magic wand usage, pressing Ctrl I and then delete and then it's possible to copy paste the object into a new template. Many thanks for your help once again.
  12. Thank you Sarkut and Ego Eram Reputo for both your ideas. Will have a look at the plugins. The line/curve tool I found not suitable for a very uneven outline. Then the lasso select would almost be easier to use, and that is already almost impossible with an uneven outline. It's a real pity that without any plugins, one cannot just use the magic wand to delete the entire background and then by clicking copy, have the remaining figure/picture, to paste onto a new photo.
  13. And how would I select the outline of an object out of an image, if it's n o t just a straight outline, like the laptop in the example? I am actually having the problem of needing to take an object ( a horse and rider) out of an image to apply it to another background, like in this question, but naturally the outline of the horse and the rider isn't straight at all. How does one do that? Many thanks for your ideas.
