  1. This rotates the complete image. I would use this if my photograpy was poor and the image was not vertical. I cannot see how Zoom would transform the image. Perspective is the correct Tool but not for me! It is perfect in Elements 6 (Image > Transform > Distort. The image is shaped as a trapezium with the top side shorter than the bottom side such as when you photograph a tall building from near to the base. The Transform tool increases the top side to be equal to the bottom. I want to keep my editing completely with Paint.Net and not to switch to Adobe for this operation.
  2. Thanks again I can now use Quadrilateral Reshape but unfortunately it will only remove the unwanted perspetive view by making the complete image narrower. I am going to admit defeat and continue to use Elements for this one purpose. I have a feeling that dpj perspective tool should work but I have not the ability. In attempting to solve this problem I have learned a great deal.
  3. Thanks again. Looks promising. Downloaded from Evans Web Site. Download name EOEffects.dll Message when I tried to open it: "This file does not have a program associated with it. Please install a program or, or if one is already installed, create an association in Default Programs control panel". Presumably because it is a dll file. How do I do create an association? Thanks for your perseverance.
  4. Thanks Sarkut/Ego Eram Reputo. I dragged the extracted files into the Effects folder, restarted and I can now use the Perspective tool. Unfortunately I cannot achieve the desired effect which is to correct a distorted image in which the right side slopes to the left and the left side to the right although by a lesser amount. I can do this easily with Photoshop Elements 6 when the image is surrounded by a bounding box with nodes at the corners which can be dragged independantly to make the image sides vertical. I do not want to use the Adobe software which was expensive to buy and to upgrade. Elements 6 was not compatible with Windows 7 and they expected me to buy Windows 8. I accept that this method is not possible with Paint.Net and would be happy to use it if I could get the required result. There are 24 different combinations (3 Ratios; 4 Vertical,Horizontal,Perspective and Trapezoid; 2 Linked or not). I have tried all 24 but cannot achieve a rectangular image of the correct proportions. DPY's method has received a lot of high praise which makes me think it is me. Whatever, I will continue to use and enjoy Paint.Net.
  5. Thanks Mountainman but still no success. I re-downloaded and extracted to the default location - C:\Users\Bob\Documents\dpyplugins5.1[1]. Files already existed so they were all copied and replaced. When I clicked on the open all 13 files with .dll extension appeared with a warning not to open them. I did not and since they were all in the default location I simply closed the folders, restarted for good measure and opened Paint.Net, opened the image I wanted to change the perspective then Effects > Distort but none of the pack appeared in the list. Hope this info will help.
  6. I have downloaded and extracted dpy's pack in order to use the perspective tool to correct converging verticals. When I click on Effects > Distort there is a 20+ list but none for perspective. I am a Newbie and have successfully downloaded and used Madjic's pack to create a grid. What have I done or not done?
  7. Yes Yes Yes - This is exactly what I want. Now let me into the secret! If I cannot make it the default display then a very good second best would be to print it out and give a copy to the beginners. My DOS is Vista and prt sc has been replaced by their Snipping Tool which I have put to great use but when I try to copy it as soon as I press any key the display vanishes. You have raised my hope that there is a method. I can be stupid some time and have just used the Snipping Tool to select your table. I would still like to know how you did it. As a Newbie to Paint.NET I cannot find how to give you credit.
  8. Again you have missed the point. There is no need to print out the tools menu you have shown because it is always there by default. By clicking on the arrow in the tab marked "Tool" a single column list of the tools with a written description of what it does appears. I wanted this to either be the default display or print it out. Any attempt to select it fails because as soon as any key is pressed the display reverts immediately to the default one. Try it! The group are making good progress and soon there will not be any need for the icons + text menu. It is not important but I did not like giving up.
  9. Thanks. I have no difficulty in remembering but I am a member of a group of elderly photographers who have adopted Paint.NET and do have difficulty. I tried to capture the display with Vista's Snipping Tool with the intention of printing it out but it disappears as soon as you clip on it.
  10. By default the tools are shown as icons. As a newbie I can find out what they are by hovering over them. It is also possible to have a display with a written description of each icon by clicking on the arrow on the dropdown toolbox but as soon as a tool is selected the display reverts to the icons only. Is it possible to make the icon + text either the default one or to remain for the session? ItsBob
  11. I am a newbie with Paint.NET and in the process of learning. At times I do not have access to the internet when I would like to be able to use the very good File menu program offline. I would think the answer is no but would liked to be proved wrong. Bob
