Well then, that was a complete waste of time.

A real simple question from a newbie perpetually frustrated with the simplest of tasks in all paint programs. I'm editing a PSD with a plugin. There is a layer with a piece of text on it. I want to edit this selection. I don't want to make new text. I want to select this text and change it, retaining the exact positioning, font, etc. How do I do this? The tutorials and help do not tell me.
