  1. I am still on XP so guessing that is the problem. WIll install it on my Win 7 machine and verify I have no issue. Sounds like another reason to migrate to my Win 7 box. Rick
  2. Downloaded the latest version Paint.NET v3.5.8 (Final Release build 3.58.4081.24580) friday and tried it but backed it out and re installed an older version v3.2 because I can't do without the thumbnail view. I have not tried it on Windows 7 so not sure if that would make a difference. But even then I have not completely migrated to my windows 7 box yet so....another reason to be on WIN 7? Rick
  3. In the newest version of Paint.net how do you get the thumbnail view to be the default type of view when opening a file in Windows XP? Instead it always defaults to LIST view when you open the program. In my current old version 3.2 it saved the last view 'state' you used but this is gone in the newer versions - at least since 2008. Windows by default saves the last view 'state' of a folder when last accessed and the old version of Paint.net also had this windows behavior. MS Word, Excel, ect.. also has this behavior and saves the last open file view state you used. Paint.net does not respect the windows folders default view state - it uses its own and defaults it to LIST every time. I have not been able to upgrade Paint.net for years because LIST view is worthless when viewing hundreds of pictures. Is there any way to get the default windows behavior back or is there a setting that saves the file open view state? Thanks Rick
  4. Wow, I was not at all grouchy and was not mad or anything. :o Sorry if it sounded like I was. I was just stating the facts for my situation as I was dealing with the problem I had as I tried to solve it. Keep in mind that internet communication is void of emotion and assumptions can easily be wrong. I am a programmer and I understand this world so the solutions/info presented since I last posted are very helpful so I will play around with it. I might have to change the way I do things because my images are created in temp folders so moving the images to a folder with default view might be workable - if that works. I will have to play with it and see if it has something to do with folder property inheritance in XP. As far as getting support for a old program goes - it makes no difference to me for what I am doing. I was using an old, old version of Photopaint up until Feb of 2009 when I found that Paint.Net would act as a great replacement for what I was doing - the others I looked at were to clumsy or limited for me to 'quickly' edit hundreds of files at a time. Thanks for the help! Rick
  5. I found my original paint.net install program from 2/2008 and reverted it back to version 3.22 to solve the paint.net problem. Won't be upgrading anytime soon.
  6. After a few years of using Paint.Net I finally updated the program to the most recent version. Bad move. Now the program does not save your FILE_OPEN view preference (last used - detail, thumbnal, list, ect...). Instead it always defaults to detail view. I open hundreds of images and have to see them before I open them so I absolutely need to have the FILE_OPEN view in thumbnail view. I cannot keep changing the view all the time to open hundreds of images. That is way too labor intensive. This was not a problem before the upgrade – Paint.Net used whatever view I used last. I can deal with this for awhile but not long term so I need to know if this will be fixed, otherwise I will need to start looking for other programs, even if I have to pay for them. Either that or I need to install an earlier version of the program. Or, maybe I am using the program wrong? Thanks.
