Ok I paint the background white. How do I blend the image edges to the white so the image looks original and not pixelly??

It is a picture of an item on a wood floor i want to make the background white and still have the item look good. I tryed it in paint (windows) and the edges were pixelly. I want the object to keep it's shape. Thanks
