  1. Thanks! Just the tickets i wanted right under my nose all the time (though I do think I did try but didn't get the result I do get now!)
  2. I would like to have hotkey control of various effects, just today it is the Distort>Crystalize effect that I want to be able to adjust the Cell size and trigger the [Randomize] button with the keyboard instead of using my mouse. Is this possible? I would like, for example, to be able to press Alt+C and ^ [the upp arrow key] to increase cell size, Alt+C and ˅ [the down arrow key] to diminish the cell size. Alt+R would randomize the cells (any other key combination would be fine as long as it is intuitive and described in the controlling window perhaps with underlining).
  3. The 5.0.1 version I just installed has two choices when the pencil tool is active: "Pixelated selection quality" (['selection' ??]) "Antialiased selection quality" I get no difference between the lines drawn whether I choose on or the other. BTW. I think the qualities should just be labled "Pixelated" & "Antialiased" if indeed this tool is equipped to do that.
  4. I think it would be nice (and perhaps even not to difficult 😉) to have the selected brush size as close to the center of the dropdown list as reasonable when the size box chevron is clicked, instead of having it always at the top. As often as I want to increase the brush size I want to decrease it.
  5. The Scan is rather pixeleated so it is not easy I am attaching an image with som manipulation. I first duplicated the original image that layer I set to "Additive" and transparency 128. Then I combined those layers and did a little tweaking of brightness and contrast. I feel that it is better but still not "good". Magic want selection of either the wanted text or the background requires a LOT of reselection and tweaking to get a selection of just the text/background in order to eliminate the unwanted selection.
  6. "Edit 2: Even weirder: Before using the magic wand for the second time, use the ellipse selection tool in subtract mode, then switch back to the magic wand. It will work as intended." But you have to Subtract with the Ellipse tool some of what was previously selected, if you try to subtract just wasn't selected previously it does not work as expected. Create a diagonal Black to White linear gradient. Use the rectangle select tool to select a rectangle in the center of the image. with the ellipse (or any other) tool Subtract select outside the selection (blue) area. With the Magic wand set at 15% tolerance subtract select in the middle of the rectangle Areas outside the rectangle are selected! Undo (Ctrl+Z) With the ellipse (or other selection)tool subtract select as before but include a few pixels of the central selection rectangle With the Magic wand set at 15% tolerance subtract select in the middle of the rectangle only areas within the rectangle are de-selected!
  7. The magic wand sure does seem quicker... but ANY tolerance when I "subtract" removes all selected pixels in the image. (Did I miss something?)
  8. The 'Clone' tool is pretty good, There is a 'Smudge' tool (you have to search plugins for it and install it).
  9. Don't forget that you can change the transparency of the layers: Double click and use the slider ot enter a value between 0 and 255 to get the layer more or less transparent.
  10. You can adjust the "sensitivity" of the fill. A low value will only fill very similarly colored pixels, a high value will fill colors that are more different. You can set "Global" or "Contiguous"the latter so that the pixels that are filled must be adjacent to each other; "Global" fills all the pixels in the image (the selection if there is an active selected area). Right click for the background color, Left click for the foreground color fill.
  11. When creating and editing animated .gifs (.agif) a single click or quick key combo could toggle all layers visibility. That would help greatly when many images are in the animation. //Interestingly I cannot get my Layers window to appear in a screendump! This is not a big issue but I thought I would illustrate this request with an image of the "Layers" window with many layers.//
  12. When you drag the move tool corner look at the bottom of the Paint.net window to get information on the size of the image. If you are zoomed out then it might be difficult to get the EXACT size wanted but if zoomed in it is easy.
  13. My new quad-core Intel i7 processor really works a lot when I select lots of discontinuous pixels (for example magic wand selection of dark leaves in an image with small leaves against a bright sky background). Any operations take a long time (several minutes) for each change of brightness or contrast or selecting anew to add to(subtract from the existing selection.... This severely limits the work I can do. Does anybody else experience this and have a solution/workaround?
  14. Use a vector graphics tool such as Inkscape [http://www.inkscape.org/en/] (free and cross platform!) to do text in shape. It's great AND you can export to a multitude of bitmap formats too!
  15. If the fuzzy "out of focus" feeling is not an issue, a batch resize can be done as many images as you want at once (for example with another free software such as IrfanView [http://www.irfanview.com/] click on download)
  16. Magic wand tool selects pixels of "similar color" use the "Tolerance" slider at the top of the application window to adjust how similar tha selected pixels are to be... "Add" or "Subtract" or "Intersect" etc your selection to get what you want selected. Ego Eram Reputos suggestion of putting the different items on different layers was (I assume) your original intention, if not it definitely is the way to go!
  17. Quick and dirty (You should remake the logo with a vector program!) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/399593/AperturePunch.png
  18. To make it look even more like wind blowing a flag i would suggest putting some vertical (or almost vertical) distortion on the cloud image before (or maybe after) blurring it.
  19. They both use UNFREEZE- Won't Paint.net do it by itself with the plugin at the top of the post? /GregorS
  20. OK I put the Effects and File Types files in the right places, Still I find nothing in the Paint.NET user interface that lets me turn a bunch of files I have renamed to .apng into an animation. How does this work? is there a tutorial that coves THIS plugin?
  21. I've got paint.Net 3.5.8 on Win XP SP3 and it works for me [some memory issues but I can deal with those now: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/8606-out-of-memory-to-loadedit-an-image-read-this-first/], try and uninstall, reinstall (from a new download in case the original download was corrupt)
  22. Are you sure that you only have one layer (png does not support layers so images with more than one layer [even empty layers] will default to .pdn).
  23. Some people have a really difficult time crossing their eyes while retaining focus on the image but that is what it takes for one of the techniques that does not use optics.
