  1. Thankyou very much for taking the time to write this, its incredibly clear and well written  Peter
  2. Hello What I meant by "directly" is...... "Into".... ie...... When you unzip them, you will be prompted for a "destination" on your hard drive.... This will be either the "Effects" folder or the "File Types" folder depending on the type of plugin you are unzipping Peter
  3. Mmmm, thats a good call, I wondered what that icon was associated with. Dll's are not normally associated with one particular program.. ? I would have thought that a .dll designed to be used with a running Paint.NET... would work. I cannot say if an installation situation would throw up an error because of it though.. I wouldn't think you should assign the dll to have a single default program opening it, that would affect all others in the system..... Peter
  4. Hello Betty It shows that the dirctory "FileTypes" is not there..... You could navigate in Explorer To the C:\Program Files\Paint.NET directory.... Click on the Paint.NET directory to highlight it, then right click and select "NEW" and then select "Folder" A new folder will appear and you should name it "FileTypes" Maybe the plugin installation is expecting it to be there..... not sure, but it wont do any harm to create it manually. Close Paint.NET and unzip the plugins you haven't managed to install. Once they are unzipped, ensure the effects plugins are in the Effects folder, and any file types plugins are in the FileTypes folder. as before...... see what happens I guess. Remember, if you want, you can unzip them somewhere else too, and then move them across afterwards... As Simon Brown says, you can run PdnRepair.exe, you will find it the Paint.NET directory... Either use the start button and "Run" this file, or use explorer, navigate to it in the Paint.NET directory....Double click it to run it. Peter
  5. In the case of "Effects" plugins.... Unzip them directly into the folder.... C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects..... OR to somewhere you keep downloads, then move or copy them to the C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects In the case of "FileType" plugins.... Unzip them directly into the folder.... C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\FileTypes......... Ensure Paint.NET is not running when you do this! Peter
  6. Hello, I am not sure, but somethings seem strange about the error list..... The paths in the generated statements have three different drives involved.... C:, D: and G:..........I wouldnt have thought that was right..... Anyway, "Screenshots", I dont have lots of useless things in this PC, but have found that this..... http://www.windowclippings.com/ is just sooo useful and dead easy to use. It works alongside PaintNET, you simply run it from the taskbar icon at ANY time you need, then just frame any part of your screen (always resizeable), right click, and send grabbed image directly to paintNET. There are probably lots of these utilities about, but this is tiny and works very well...... Peter
  7. Hi Betty, Thats a result! as the plugins are showing up, now they are in the right place.. As long as these special effect plugins are in the \Effects folder they should show up and be active within PaintNet. If the CustomBrushesMini.dll is in there, it should show up too, I would have thought. The message you have shown, does mean something to me, but I cant say what the correct action should be... Other than..... you have this line in your error stuff... Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\FileTypes'. If you use Explorer to navigate to the Paint.NET directory, have a look to see if the "FileTypes" folder exists.... It should be there.... just below the Effects folder in the directory structure, and maybe this new plugin needs it................ I expect someone here will be able guide you soon. Peter
  8. Hi Betty, All the advice here is spot on, may I ask you something.. Do you know how to run windows Explorer and navigate, using your mouse, to the C:\Programme Files\Paint.NET\Effects folder ? If you do........, try MOVING the entire contents of the SECOND "Effects" folder (which is below the first) into the "FIRST" Effects folder... You can "drag" them one by one, or............. click the first in the listing, press and HOLD down SHIFT (the UP arrow key) then click on the LAST file in the list, this will SELECT and HIGHLIGHT all of them. Now click AND HOLD the LEFT mouse button, and DRAG the files across to the first Effects folder, releasing the button will drop them in there......................... It is possible to also "COPY" them this way and "PASTE" them also..... but one step at a time I guess. Once the files are moved, you can delete the second, now EMPTY,.... Effects folder..... I am sorry if i am off track, just trying to help Regards Peter
  9. Ahhh yes, I see what you mean, but I would not mind, if when zooming in, the brush size shrunk as i went and the reverse being applied as I zoom out. With the setting then staying where it is once I am back at my original view size... Just having the brush size altered to always be within the screen boundaries so I can see it, is probably what I am trying to describe. Does that make sense... Not to worry though, PaintNet is an unbelievable program and is just perfect for the things I do.. Peter
  10. Hello, Though I am new to PaintNet, this is something that I was wondering too. Would it be possible, when the "Brush" is selected, that a slide control, could be active all the time, at any zoom setting, enabling you to increase or decrease the brush size on the fly, allowing it to shrink or grow in real time... Thanks Peter
  11. I have googled "windows seven disappearing icons" and it 'maybe', that its an issue, and eventually get an upgrade... I guess these things are bound to happen with a new OS. However, in the meanwhile, I found this........... Right click on desktop > View > click show desktop icons I hope it may help you Peter
  12. Well, for what its worth, original/modified, whatever, I think everyone here wins hands down! You all do the most amazing things with images, and its a pleasure to be able to visit and see.. Its unbelievable! Never lose sight of your passion Thankyou Peter
  13. Thankyou Simon, All is very clear now, I have setup the *.apng file type as well, I believe someone has said the image quality does not degrade. I have been using and programming pc's for a long time, casually, and its suprising how 'pidgeon holed' its possible to get..... I never realised that, from what I have read on this thread, gif animation was a 'WOW' breakthrough. But I now understand, and with the power and flexibility, that is PaintNet, much will be possible. I normally focus on high performance sequential gearboxes  which may explain my complete mental block! This is all very new to me. Thanks to all for their invaluable help, its much appreciated BTW, PaintNet is truely, an astonishing piece of work 8) Regards Peter
  14. Ok, Thankyou, I apologise for seeming sloooooooow! I have opened PaintNet, created a multi layered file, and saved it as an agif. On renaming it to a gif, i can run it in the Quicktime player. I am still trying to understand..... Is that it?, as on reading this thread, it seems as if you all are setting frame rates and manipulating several other things in the image with the 'NEW' plug in. Its frustrating, I am trying to understand, and I am not used to working with images, IS the option to save in agif format, NEW..? I can indeed create animated Gifs, in a multi layered file, and run it in a viewer, although I have no idea how I can post one here that is playing on the screen as others have done . I am sorry if i have missed the point, and thank you for your patience Regards Peter
  15. I am using version 3.5, the latest one... I can save work in a lot of formats including .agif... Are you saying I have to save a file in a certain format 'before the plugin becomes active'?
  16. Thanks for that, Yes PaintNet is not running while I install the plugin... I have just done as you suggest, and have opened the properties dialogue on each file, and selected Unblock. On running PaintNet again, there's still no change.... Peter
  17. Hi, I really dont want to sound stupid, but need some help getting this to work. I have downloaded and unzipped the AnimGIF.dll into my file types folder, the accompanying SBCommon.dll is/has been in the effects directory and/or the file types directory. But there is no plugin i can see... And there is no history of plugin load errors in the Utilities menu either.... I just am asking, where do i find the plugin? as it does not appear in ANY of the menus or sub menus inside PaintNet. I dont want to waste anybodies time here, but would appreciate some advice. Thanks Peter
  18. Here is my first attempt...... not brilliant, but I understand whats going on now.... http://www.manxmaniac.co.uk/myGifFiles/ball.gif http://www.manxmaniac.co.uk/myGifFiles/ball.avi Thanks for the advice Peter
  19. Hello, I have downloaded The Animated Image 1.7, but have not been able to get it to work... Would you be able to say what is needed and where. Thankyou Peter
  20. Barbieq25 Yes it is and will get there eventually... thanks for everyones help. Edited,,, I have down loaded the Pyrochild plugin for Smudge, but am not able to use it. My PaintNet does not support it apparently, I have the latest version, so guess I will have to wait. Peter
  21. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh, thanks very much, that works fine now. Ok.........one last question, is there a plugin available that takes this faded edge further, where I could select faded edge > with the option of triangle, hexagon, elipse, circle, smudge etc.... And that it all was movable and resizeable, before it all is locked down..... plus control over the severity of the fade.... ? Peter
  22. Barbieq25, Thankyou, this is a truely amazing place for shere creativity with images, all your work is incredible. Yes I have just downloaded a plugin, and the option to "Fade edge" then appeared in the Photo menu.... It was not there before that! Its not actually sorted, as is the way with me.... I modified a photo and the grey and white squares appeared around the outside, indicating a transparent situation...... Yet when viewed on my site, which has a black background, the photo has a "white" edge, not transparent.. Can i adjust the underlying colour of the transparency.... I cannot see a "smudge" option though, as there are sooooo many plugins, its difficult to know which one to use.... Peter
  23. Well, sorted it..... Got there in the end! Peter
  24. Hello, I am new to all of this, and some of your work defies belief. So I hope maybe you could help... I have some photos, and I would like to put a border around the outside that will make the photo fade away.... to invisible, a sort of cloudy, wispy effect that I can control the density of I have tried to find a way, but to no avail.... Could anyone say if this may be possible.. Thanks Peter
