Thanks guys. Now that you two have helped kick start my brain I remember these were done with macros that opened a number of layers which were then manipulated. Wow that was almost 4 years ago I dropped Photoshop for PDN but just now have found the time to start really working with it and its plugins.

To add lighting effects (spot, multiple beam, shadow) such as Marc Lighting for phototshop had (cant find it on the web anymore for examples). Mystical Lighting has some of what I was looking for (links below). Also is there a different lens flare plugin (or tutorial) than the published one (lensflare)?
