  1. Great job everyone! What beautiful work it inspires me to play around more.
  2. I'm not sure how to go about it but I think the soldier on the first one needs to be popped out a little bit. He is hard to see at least for me and I think if popped out he would appear more lonely. The second one I think needs something. Sorry but it appears too blah and ordinary. Doesn't invoke any emotion or nothing. Perhaps add some blurred wisps or more of an impression of fog without totally losing the soldier. Maybe just a touch of color somewhere. Thanks for sharing. I hope someone who knows more how to do things with this program than I do will have some good ideas of how you can improve them. I think you have a good start and see lots of potential with your images.
  3. fleeting glimpse you missed the black cat with the telporting unit on the back quarters. That is the first thing I noticed. My impression at first glance was that it was spirits perhaps of the departed watching over us. I also saw what appeared to be an alien watching us. Perhaps studying us. Interesting piece and choice of colors. Second look at your work and instead of spirits watching over us I'm thinking about a native american type poem that I wrote about spirit rising. It is about how at the time of earthly death the spirit rises to another plane, another place. So I thought perhaps the spirits were rising not singular but in a group somewhere.
  4. This is the first picture I came up with to use on the front of a card. Although I liked it it seemed to be a little blah so after playing around with different things I came up with this one. I like it a lot better. I thought I had lost this vintage image but it resurfaced so using the vintage image and a stock image of shamrocks I put together this. I plan to use some curling ribbon on the card to echo the ribbon in the vintage image. Another vintage image with the same shamrock image. I found a shamrock necklace strung on string and I'm going to use part of the necklace on this card.
  5. This is my first attempt at putting together a photo collage with this program.
  6. I save my graphics in png format for use in Word and Publisher. I have gotten great quality in my printouts. I use the autodetect setting when I save them and so far have not been disappointed. If you have any doubts best to save first as pdn and then save in the different formats. Good luck!
  7. Here is an automatic drawing I did with two different textures being used as background. I did the drawing with my eyes closed. Good thing it was done on my computer or I would have had paint, pencil or crayon all over the wall.
  8. This is something different. I got the idea to divide the dog and to use different images for symbols from Roy De Forest's Ink on paper "K-9 Corps". The music notes near Jr's tail is because he loves to use his tail as drumsticks on any available surface. One of these days I'm going to rent him out as a drummer.
  9. Thanks I already have played around with the pastel but had not thought of trying the frosted glass after using the pastel. I decided in my old age to experiment and try new things. In addition I decided to learn more about art and different techniques that artist have used.
  10. I did search but could not come up with anything for crayons or chalk. Although in another program I can convert an image to conte crayon and chalk it does both of them. In other words I have no control over where the chalk is placed and can not just make an image with the look of being drawn with conte crayon. In addition it would be nice to sometimes draw with chalk. We have pencil and paintbrush but no chalk as far as I can tell. I would like to try to duplicate the effect Edgar Degas did in his "Ballet Dancer Standing".
  11. I had fun playing with different graphics to make the heart out of. I used a photo of a sunset at the beach and this is what the result was. I especially like the way this one turned out using a flower picture I had played around with earlier in Paint.Net. Thank you for sharing.
  12. The contest for a lock screen image encouraged me to try my hand at creating my own lock screen images. This is what I first came up with. The user picture fits perfectly in the middle when the computer is locked. This one I thought was really elegant and would even be good for regular wallpaper. I don't know if gif files would work but thought this would be neat with a butterfly flitting around.
  13. I thought I posted this but it is not showing up in my posts and I don't see it here. This was my first attempt at making an abstract image using Paint.NET. I took the image I got playing around with the kaleidoscope plug-in and used the metallic plug-in on it.
  14. The first time I open Custom Brushes it wants me to update the plug-in. (I am using the newest plug-in) and then I get the message there is an error and do I want to continue the program. Of course I always say yes and can then go in and use the Custom Brushes as I would normally.
  15. This creation is dedicated to Bill who encouraged me to compose music, write poetry, build a web-site, and dabble in making pretty picture. He also even when in the midst of Early Onset Alzheimer's taught me to never give up hope. I treasure the day that a dozen butterflies landed on him and he said it was a sign everything was going to be all right. I will also always treasure our long bicycle rides.
  16. I found this vintage image and decided to make a card using it. I made the image transparent and added my lace image as background and put a border around the picture. Then I took and glued foil hearts where the valentine's were in the basket and glued hearts spilling out of the basket. From a picture of the card I then cut out the girl with her basket and created a new image. Using my lace background once again and this neat frame I found.
  17. After almost flunking out of an art appreciation class that required drawing and painting I tend to stick to simple. My drawing skills are limited to simple shapes. Besides then I can often use the images on my web site or use them for greeting cards. Of course if I ever get around to making a scrapbook I'll use them there also. Thanks for your kind words.
  18. The heart flourish was originally black and white. I changed color and used the metallic plug-in. You can get all kinds of interesting effects with that plug-in. Then made it transparent. The dutch girls were originally part of a vintage valentine. I did some cropping and erasing and then made them transparent. I added a purple background. This one is the same one that I used the metallic plug-in with. I circle cropped from a valentine and added my lace background. I think I misnamed my lace background when I created it several years ago but it adds a nice texture.I think the frame gives it a nice finish.
  19. Thank you. I did not realize that documents was where the brushes were stored. It is just a lot easier to pick out brushes by categories instead of having to scroll down a long list.
  20. I must be computer illiterate because even after underscoring the file names the mini-brush does not want to put them in categories. The ones in files it only wants to import them separately. Do I need the files in some folder in a paint.net directory or is it possible I have an older version of the plug-in?
  21. As far as I can tell with the playing around I have been doing any png image will do. Some of the websites that have tubes for download also have the option of downloading png clipart. The grass used in my sig right now came from one of those sites. Unfortunately I don't remember where it was as there were all kinds of tubes that were also available as png clipart. I am currently working on a set of daisy alphabet mini-brushes and when finished will zip them up and share them. I have not tried yet to convert an image to png format but think that would work too. Now if there was some way to organize the mini-brushes. There probably is I just don't know how. By the way with my playing I've discovered I can often change the color of the png with the color balance and you can make the image transparent if need be. With a lace mini-brush I got a delightful effect after changing the color going in and using the metallic plug-in. Experiment and have fun!
  22. I like making cards for people and what better time than for Valentine's day. I had the idea that I wanted to make a card with flowers made by cutting out a paper doily. I remembered that I had this gif file and thought this would be perfect for my purposes. Since the background is transparent I wanted a background that looked like perhaps it was done with pastels or watercolors. Also I did not like the original green border. After playing around for awhile this is what I came up with. Alas I could not find a paper doily but remembered that I had fabric flowers and an assortment of foam hearts. I think the card really came out nice.
  23. I used the photo in the link below to create the opening page here for my gallery. I have fun playing with different effects and lomography is a technique I used to use a lot when I took photos with a 35mm. Needless to say I was happy to discover that there is a plug-in to create that effect. http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y106/Myoriah/screenshots/492.jpg
  24. Thanks! I guess I missed that plug-in while looking through the plug-ins. I'm a newbie with this program and so far am impressed with all I can do with it. I especially like the many plug-ins that are available.
