  1. For what it's worth, when you're ready to address a fix, this problem is not limited to photos originally taken with a digital camera. I am using a free tool called Exif Tool GUI (from http://freeweb.siol.net/hrastni3/) to update scanned positive slides, and I cannot update the camera model on any image I have editied with Paint.Net. I performed 3 experiments to confirm that Paint.Net "corrupts" EXIF data. setup) Scan a slide as a TIF image. 1) Open the TIF file with Paint.Net. Save it as a JPG file. Select the JPG file with Exif Tool GUI. Highlight the EXIF button at the top right to limit the attribute set. Click the arrow underneath the EXIF button to display the change dialog. Edit the camera make and model. Uncheck the backup checkbox. Click the Save button. The reply is "1 files weren't updated due to errors". 2a) Open the TIF file with Microsoft Pro Photo Tools. Add a Name under the Photographer category. Save the file and close it. Select it with Exif Tool GUI. Highlight the EXIF button at the top right to limit the attribute set. Software="Microsoft Pro Photo Tools" and XPAuthor = my name. Click the arrow underneath the EXIF button to display the change dialog. Edit the camera make and model. Uncheck the backup checkbox. Click the Save button. The reply is "1 image files updated". 2b) Open the TIF file with Paint.Net. Save it as a JPG file. Select the JPG file with Exif Tool GUI. Highlight the EXIF button at the top right to limit the attribute set. Click the arrow underneath the EXIF button to display the change dialog. Edit the camera make and model again. Uncheck the backup checkbox. Click the Save button. The reply is "1 files weren't updated due to errors". Please let me know when a fix is available, because I am archiving vacation photos which will eventually be burned to CD with creation date, photographer and GPS data. Thanks!
