Possum, I remember a similar horror stretch earlier this year. Glad you are back & things are getting back on track for you.
I have gone back to what my original doctor told me to do and I am feeling so much better now it's stupid.
Not too far off topic but I am interested if anyone watches Face Off or Hot Set on SciFy Channel? Face Off is the one where the people have to design and make special effects make-up and prosthetics based on a theme. They make everything from monsters to zombies to aliens. Pretty cool show. The season final is tonight. I love some of the concepts they have on the show and would like to incorporate them into the WOTW.

OK, let's go with this theme for at least another week (Friday or Saturday of this week) and see if people can get their robots working.
Also, if you want you can also make them cyborg farm animals (part robot, part animal). -

I would appreciate your input though, so chime in on the WOTW ideas thread. I always open to ideas (mostly because I don't have any original ideas anymore. )

I only have one entry sent to me and it's the night to close out the entries. I guess I could just call it the winner but that hardly seems fair to that person. What does everyone want to do? Should I extend the entry time or choose a new theme and start over? I need some input from everybody. Did I come up with a stupid theme or is everyone just too busy? Let me know !

Sorry everyone, things got worse before they got better. Long story and too many things to go over! I got sicker, wife got out of hospital and I had to care for her, mom went into hospital and had a pacemaker put in her heart, dad had car wreck and is all banged up, sister fell at the gym and hurt her leg and arm. When it rains, it pours ! Everything will work out OK, it just takes time.
Solution? Eat more cookies !

WOTW Comp Rules: All submissions must be created in Paint.net with the exception of renders and stock photos when allowed.
Minimum size is 800 X 600. There is no maximum size, but keep in mind that people will want to look at your image
and if it takes too long to load, they may not look at it.
Please try to make your image in the proportion of a Wallpaper, because this is a Wallpaper comp. (Duh!)
NO PLACEHOLDERS Do not post an entry until it is a finished product. NO WIPS !
Obviously you cannot use the stocks or renders as your entire submission, so the majority of your image should be
created in Paint.net.
Special rule # 5. Do not anger the Possum.

The Theme Idea:
You are to make a wallpaper of an image using a realistic/semi-realistic style of robotic creatures that might be found in a barnyard.
You may include any other item found on a farm. You may use photos for the farm objects but not for the Robotic Animals.
Your robot(s) can be made (look like) from any substance you desire from a metallic finish to a plastic finish, even wood if you choose.
You can include any farm animal you want (for you city folk, we have Cows, Chickens Horses, Donkeys, Pigs, Goats, Sheep, Dogs, Cats, Ducks as well as bees and flowers and veggies and other crops.
There are also barns and fences and tractors and stuff like that.)
You must use Paint.Net but you may also use other graphics programs as well. You MAY ALSO use stock images, but not for the ROBOTIC ANIMALS !
This comp will run for TWO Weeks !
DO NOT Post your entries in this thread. PM your entries to me and I will post them as they come in.

Wow! That is strangely along the lines of one of the two themes I'm working on. I have narrowed it down to two and I just can't pull them together tonight. I'm just too sick and I have too many animals to feed (and they are all mad that my wife is not home to pamper them). I'll really try to have something tomorrow night. Sorry.

I'm sorry it's been over a week since I was on here ! I will put something together tonight and post it.
Long story, short version, my doctor wanted me to see a lung specialist so i went to see him. He prescribed me some new medicine to heap me breath better and had his assistant give me a dose in the office to show me how to use the device. It made me very sick. Blood pressure went through the roof, severe muscle cramps in my legs and arms. Now I have another respiratory infection. Not what I had envisioned for last week and my weekend. Needless to say, I'll stick to the old medication.v
My wife had hip replacement surgery this morning and I just got home from the hospital. Hey, it's been a hectic week ! So without further delay, I'm going to read everyone's post and then put the theme together and get the show on the road.

OMG ! I just realized that this is the 40th WOTW ! Wow ! Maybe we should do something special?

I've only ever won when no-one else entered :)Lol me too. I don't know how much time I'll be able to spend on it anyway. Somehow, I've been roped into doing a bit of landscape design and drafting/mapping for the County park lakes. The lakes have silted in over the last 40 years or so and they are trying to find a way to dredge them and rehabilitate the area. We are planning on making the larger one deep enough to hold fish (other than carp) and the other smaller two into outdoor labs for people to see native wetland plants/wildlife habitat. They may even bring back the paddle boats! Much fun !
Anyway, here is the past list that was compiled a page or two back.

More or less this is the concept. Obviously this example lacks a lot of artistry but shows an idea of creating a wallpaper to "dock" the icons in this case into some floating areas ... This can be done in a bunch of different ways. Lots of potential 3D design concepts could be employed. For a competition this could cause some people to go a little crazy arranging their desktops to get snapshots ... Not sure this is such a good idea in hindsight or not. But interface designs can open up a whole lot of expression in design work ... Websites and all the rest are more or less of a similar idea basis (all the icons, buttons, etc). This is just relatively static underneath your icons and what nots.
I also thought of a few more the other day...
Robot animals (or robot insects)
Celebrity Zombies (photo manipulation)
Gaga Someone (as in make someone look like Lady Gaga or maybe Nicki Minaj - photo manipulation)
Alien attack or Flying saucer attack (photo manipulation or original art)
Things that go bump in the night ( From the Scottish Prayer - From ghoulies and ghosties. And long-leggedy beasties. And things that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us! ) Original artwork.
Some of these might take more than a week, but I don't think we really need to stick to it being a week long comp just because the title says "of the Week". So if you like one of these ideas, think about how long it might take to create something and let me know and we can decide on the length of the comp based on the difficulty of the theme.
I'd like to get it going this weekend (at least by Monday) so let me know what you all think. Tell your friends, family and pets. Let's try to get a lot of entries!

Hi, back again. Maybe I can get the next round started soon. Be thinking "Timeline", as in Facebook Timeline. Make an image that you would like to have on your Facebook page as your Timeline image (or one for a friend, if they ask really nice and maybe bring chocolate......)
I'll check back in when I can and see if anyone is interested.......or irritated........or something.......

Killer gallery! Very clever stuff. I like the alien-ized Drew Barrymore, mostly because I simply adore her.
I'm particularly fond of the water faucet hummingbird and the remote control fisherman. Those showcase a great surrealistic style, which I really enjoy.
Thank you very much. I appreciate when someone is specific about what pieces they like. It helps me to keep my focus. I too adore Drew. There is much to say about that topic but I never know when my wife might read this post so silence is the better part of valor. I'm so glad you like the hummingbird and the fisherman. I really enjoy doing the photo manips. There are just so many things possible when you think about it. I wish I had more time to explore this area. If you get a chance take a look at this link FreakingNews I run a photo manip comp from time to time in the Competition Section of the forum. Stop by and take a look when you have the time.

Thanks, I feel it's a fitting award for many reasons. I have decided to embrace my eccentric nature and wear it like a comfortable old jacket. We are all different, but some of us are more so.....

I agree with Welshie, once you start it you better stick around and keep it going. You get my vote if you're willing to step up and keep it running. I think it's an important comp that needs to be running every week or every two weeks. It was the reason I got into the comps in the first place. I would like to see it run in the same format as it did in the past, but that is really up to you to decide.

I am really liking these ideas. Let us try to formulate an idea that I can put into action for a comp. Additional ideas anyone? Limitations/constraints? I see this as a very flexible and open idea for a comp. Let's refine the ideas a little and we can go with it.
Sorry for the delay on getting the comp posted to the poll. It has been a very bad week. Life happens and sometimes takes us to places we really don't want to go. Times like these give us limited choices and mine was to spend it with family.

Thanks, that was a fun one. It might be a good one to revisit some time. It's cool to see what people can do to celebs to make them look like aliens or zombies. LOL
Welsh and Barbie I too have had a hard time with it. I lost my muse back in January and can't seem to get it back. I have so many unfinished pieces from last year......Maybe it will come back.....
I really like the entries that people have posted. Let me have a couple of days and maybe something will come of this. If not, I'll change it. I'm really sorry guys. I wish I could explain how things are now but it's hard. Just getting work done at the office is a struggle. Maybe if I just set down and blank out my mind........
