how can i add a shadow cast by the sun

i tried the plugin, but it just seemed to cast a shadow of a box. can you help me along a bit. thanx if you can. -
how can i add a shadow to an image. the shadow needs to be as though it was cast by the sun. i have a photo with afternoon shadows in it, and when i add a new image to it i want to make the shadow look the same.
