Thanks, it worked this time. I have gone thru it a few times, but haven't tried it with my own Paint.net open. I can see one thing that confuses me already, lol. Right at the beginning, it says to import an image -fine - then under Layers - import from file - fine. Then it says to keep importing as many as you want, but the image on the tutorial shows one pic immediately pasting onto the other one and that is where I get confused. When I did this in Paint.net, the second pic I imported just replaced the first one on my screen - I never got one big one in the background and a smaller one on top of that one. Oh well, I'll try it with my own application open and follow the steps to the letter to see if it works. Maybe I am just destined not to get this ;-)

Thanks for answering me ;-) However, I think I may lack the brain cells to understand this! Ack. Maybe I need someone at the keyboard with me, lol. I need step by step idiot instructions like: import picture next step next step But thanks anyway ;-)

I am just getting started on Paint.net and although I worked with Photoshop in the past, I never did understand layers. I would second the question here, but please don't direct me again to the places in the response - I went there and they really don't give concrete answers on layers. What I want to know is this- step by step instruction on how to work with layers. I imported a picture, then hit create layer, but nothing happens. How do I import a picture, then import another one to be on top of that one- and both be visible. I know that one will have to be almost transparent, etc. But I need actual steps. The tutorials don't give that - they just explain the concept behind layers. Very frustrating Thanks.
