I am also having this problem. My image is a 5247x7826 8-bit bitmap. I am able to complete my editing operations successfully (I simply want to flip the image horizontally). However, when I go to save I get the same "Preview, file size: (error)" and then the "There was an unspecified error while saving the file." when I try and save it as an 8-bit bitmap. My computer has 2GB of RAM, with 700mb free at the time I try to save (PDN is using 524). I'm not sure if it is memory related, the sticky post seemed to indicate I would be getting different errors. I did try saving to a different location as to the above suggestion.
