  1. Question for you: What are you going for? When you say you want to "improve," what is the goal of your improvement? The first very important step for improvement is to know exactly what the problem is that you wish to fix. Without knowing that, you're shooting in the dark. If you're going for a more realistic look, I recommend looking into classes or online tutorials/lessons. Here's one to get you started if that is the case: http://drawabox.com/
  2. Paint.net only asks to increase canvas size if the image being pasted is larger than the current canvas dimensions. If possible, see if you can tell the scanner to save the images with a higher resolution.
  3. For the background, use your color picker to pick colors on both sides of the text (right click to pick for secondary color), then select around the text, add a new layer, and make a gradient across the selection. Deselect, then use gaussian blur to blend the edges.
  4. Just wanted to point out that it wouldn't be perfectly mirrored, regardless, if the text isn't backwards. Personally, I would just put a different logo on each side. That way, it's not sitting at that point where it's not quite a perfect mirror image, and I don't get upset about it.
  5. Thread's getting a bit dusty. Glad you found what you needed!
  6. Take a look through this thread and see if any of it helps
  7. The last time something similar to this happened to me, it ended up being the file was already deleted and windows was just being dumb. I restarted the computer and everything was fine again. I don't remember the details, though, so it might be a different issue altogether. File extension sounds familiar, though
  8. Try this tutorial: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/19117-the-subterranean-copypaste-blues/
  9. Would it be problematic if you made the lines thicker for the squares? That would give you more room for lighting effects. Also, make sure your drop shadow is directional. For example, if the light is coming from the top right corner of the image, make the shadow only show around the bottom left edges of the objects. EDIT: one more thing I forgot to mention. Make the image very large. That way, when you go to resize it down to what you wanted, you won't have problems with it looking blurry like my example picture in this post.
  10. Here's a tutorial on shiny glass balls: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/29991-shiny-glass-balls/ It's not exactly pearls, but you can borrow some techniques from it. I made this a while back... http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx228/pdnnoob/Chromesphere.png~original ...and wrote a quick tutorial to go with it in my gallery here, but it's really hard to follow because I didn't have time to write everything out. There's more hints further down the page too. If you would like, I could try writing up an official tutorial with pictures and everything. It is certainly not the fastest method (you can actually make a quick pearl with only the circle selection and the gradient tool), but I liked how it looked and it doesn't use shape3D (which I despise for unknown reasons)
  11. Knowing how tedious pixel art is...color me impressed. That's pretty fantastic o-o
  12. Doing the line in multiple parts is fine, but it has to be on its own separate layer. Just add a new layer and draw the lines like you normally would.
  13. I don't know what that links to, but this plugin might be helpful: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=21835 Cc4FuzzyHuggles is right, though. We generally don't revive old threads because they are often outdated, so I'll be closing this one. Feel free to start a new one if you still have questions!
  14. it also helps if you make sure you resize to a multiple of the original size, which will keep the pixels square
  15. As this is not a tutorial, I am moving it to General Discussions.
  16. ...eh? What for? Isn't the whole point of the name and logo to describe the program? Paint.net is not really an image file converter. And the logo doesn't communicate image processor quite as well as the current logo.
  17. .psd isn't a default image filetype, so I guess it isn't included. There is likely a registry you can change for that too, but at this point, we're talking about a lot of work changing individual filetype registries.
  18. I fixed this for me by changing this registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command
  19. Woah I must have missed some plugin pack updates. What a convenient time for a new computer to arrive!
  20. Instead of using "fixed ratio," use "fixed size." Fixed ratio only keeps the ratio between the height and width constant. It won't keep the actual size the same.
  21. If you're talking about how he bumped his own thread, that was entirely legitimate.
  22. There is not a built-in paths tool, but midora is working on a plugin for that (see this thread). As EER pointed out, though, for simple applications like this one, there are other ways to get the job done. Like drawing an outlined dot!
  23. Well I'll be... I completely forgot about that feature. This man is the winner.
  24. I, for one, will not have enough time to sift through and organize the 7 million results for "paint.net tutorial" any time soon... In all seriousness, though, if people can't find the video they are looking for using a search engine, manually looking through an index of the same material will not be much better.
