  1. Hey guys! Thanks so much for your advice, have been trying the tips and all certainly help but not sure they achieve that soft dreamy quality the picture I posted has. I am soooo close! Most times you can translate steps from one graphics program to another but the instructions in the original tutorial used a blending process called "soft light" which from what I can see isnt available in pdn blenmding modes and this is where perhaps the final touches to this will make it closer to this dreamy look. I tried gaussian blur with limited success. Am wondering too if perhaps you also need a dreamy picture lol, perhaps mine isnt. Would love your feedbackHere is another example of it "before and after:
  2. I have searched in vain for help in achieving this look and have tried and tried with no luck so here goes! Could anyone point me to a tutorial or give instructions to get this effect please. As many others do I found this as a tutorial for another program and have tried to recreate it with paint.net as I love the program. As is common though obviously not all commands are the same and as a novice I get stuck lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not worried about the masking etc more the technique in the photo
  3. Thanks so much for this! Had a play with it and obviously it takes time to perfect but here is my first attempt, shall be trying it again for sure. Well done.....
  4. I have tried drawing the borders then tilting but to me the edge effect is never as clean..... maybe it's just me. Anyone else have better luck with doing that way? Maybe it's just personal preference.
  5. This tutorial is available as a PDF. Click here to view or download it Hope this is OK to post as new thread..... I saw this effect and decided to try my hand at it. (Modified with screen shots) If you would like to see the steps and try it here we go: 1. Open the image you would like to splice 2. Resize the canvas enough to allow you to slice up the segments and move around slightly. So for example a 750x500 could be sized to 1000x750. Using magic wand remove the white border 3. Add new layer behind your image onto which you add a grid (effects/render/grid) which has horizontal lines (or vertical depending on your taste) roughly where you would like to slice up. Remember not too many as it looks better with smaller numbers of slices. You may need to cut & paste the grid so it aligns with the top and bottom of your image as in the screenshot below. 4. Using rectangle select and the guidelines of the grid section out first segment on your picture layer and cut... paste this segment into a new layer. 5. Select magic wand onto background of this layer then invert and move this segment slightly askew (you can play with these later to position better) 6. repeat the cutting and pasting into new layers so you have a separate layer for each segment. You can then view all layers together and play with the angles in the spliced finished product. 7. Working then on ONE layer at a time use your Line tool with your selected colour border (I used white and size 6) and carefully frame each segment. When happy with that add drop shadow ... again on each layer (I used a softer shadow so as not to distract from the photo. 8. When happy with the result merge together. 9. You can then added another layer and do the background colouring... or add another image or the same and fade back or as I did above remove colour. Possibilities are endless. This is something used often in scrapbooking so thought it may be helpful. Apologies if this has been done previously... did a search and couldn't find it.
  6. Sometimes you get surprisingly great detail in parts of the image.... I love the way the sparks light up in this attempt!
  7. Realised the stack polaroids with one picture behind give you some fun options too....
  8. Thought I would have a play with this tutorial and some Egypt travel pics... like the effect!
  9. Oh Thanks appreciate that as I am new to this... just realised the frame had drop shadow so looks like it needs feathering, I altered the original brief slightly and added the white "photo" frame after... as that way I can get a clean straight edge using line/curve tool with the width adjusted to make it look like a realistic white photo frame. Works OK when edge is straight forward but needs some filling in etc when cut through section is more complex.
  10. LOVE this effect, am now looking at every pic thinking "can I... should I?" lol such fun. Anyway here is mine
  11. Well I finally have the courage to post one of my attempts at some of the great tutorials on here Thanks to all the talented people posting them.
  12. Ohhh cannot see for looking, thanks so much! Obviously did it all right as it was there, appreciate your answer
