  1. I was just wondering if it was possible to make bevelled gears ( like below) or would that need a whole new plugin?
  2. Thanks Mop3e. Yes the last image is just a link for me too.
  3. Hi MOP3E. Any chance of some images to show what it can do?
  4. Thanks Bbq, Dryda. I am most pleased with how the gear mechanism came out. Took quite a bit of fiddling.
  5. Me too. I find the clone tool one of the trickiest ones to get used to so I rarely use it. When I was first learning PDN though I found this video very helpful. I know it is nearly 7yrs old now and he is obviously using a much older version of PDN but the principles are the same as the Clone tool has not changed much,if at all, in all that time.Hope it helps.
  6. Thanks Drew, Helen. I thought about trying to animate it like I did with the Fan gif but all those gears and the hands? Whew! I think that would be a little step too far for me. Nice to get complemented on the textures though. Never expected that.
  7. No need to apologize Red. I would never have known about this problem if you had not mentioned it. Thanks for the heads up. Will go and upgrade right now.
  8. Great start Cosmic. Dryda got there before me with the tips though. I was going to say something similar. Just like to add that the reason the comet tail always points away from the sun is because of the solar wind. Like a flag changes direction here on Earth. Not much more to be said really except keep up the good work!
  9. Helen , I`m sure you`re not a weirdo - well not quite anyway! Thanks Red. I`ve got lots more in my Fans gallery as well. Julio , this one was a mixture of photo manip and PDN. The rocks/cliffs are from real images which I think makes all the difference and helps it to look more realistic. If you want to see some of my earlier (not quite so realistic) ones feel free to visit my gallery on Fans. (sorry for the late reply, I`ve been a bit busy lately ) New image posted. Clockworks - made using Red`s brilliant Gears plugin.I thought this would be the perfect subject for it. Not so sure about the texture of the metal gears. Just could not get that realistic metallic look, but the rest is OK. Texturing has never been my strong point.
  10. Thanks Red/Skullbonz. I've just noticed something though. The large gears top and bottom should be behind the rim of the clock, not in front. I've still got the PDN file so I'll see about sorting this out. Details, details. On second thoughts , after trying that I have decided it looks better as at is.
  11. Well here is the finished image. Texturing has never been my strong point and I think it shows with the metal finish of the gears. I just could not get a satisfactory metallic finish. The rest of the clock I am quite happy with. Thanks Red for such a superb plugin.
  12. Make sure you are signed in as the Administrator otherwise you will not be able to make changes to the PC.
  13. Here is what I am working on. I thought the perfect subject for this plugin would be a geared clock. I used an image to get a rough idea of where to put them and have sorted out where each gear is going and the basic design of the clock. I am now in the (slow) process of texturing all the cogs, gears etc. I have called it Clockworks. (by the way, the reason the hands are at ten minutes past ten is so the clock has a happy face. If you look in shops they are all like this as it makes people more inclined to buy them. A sad face ( 8.20 for eg.) is less likely to attract people. Funny how the mind works. )
  14. Its amazing how images develop from the simplest ideas. I remember one I did that started off with just one vertical line! Good work Skullbonz. ☺
  15. Awesome plugin Red. Thanks very much. There is so much you can do with this one it`s amazing. Have a on me. (its sunny so I needs me shades)
  16. Rick is probably working on it . Just be patient, it might be sorted in a future update. It is not a major problem anyway. I bet there are plenty other bugs to be ironed out first.
  17. Great image Dryda. I think the background stars, the planet and the nebula are all superb. Afraid I`m not a fan of the jagged line across it though. Just seems a bit out of place to me. But other than that it`s excellent. I like the colours you chose for the nebula. Nice one.
  18. I have had this problem regularly since updating as well. I close it maximized and the next day I will open it up and it is minimized . It seems completely random as there are times when it will open just fine. I know it`s easy enough to just max it again manually but it gets a bit irritating. Strangely though, the tool window positions are always OK whether it opens maxed or minimized .
  19. I'm afraid I have to agree with EER on that. I have been downloading various versions of PDN for years now and never had a problem.
  20. You could always try Gimp. That's as near as Photoshop you'll get with a free program. I have both Gimp and PDN.
  21. Ed , on the first page there are two links for your plugins, one that says it is for v4 and one that says it is the latest version. Are they both OK for v4 ? If there are any differences between the two maybe you could say so . Or if they are both for v4 then maybe remove one of the links because it can be a bit confusing about which one should actually be installed.
  22. Sssh... I`m trying to keep quiet about my spaceship! Then everyone can think I create these things. Thanks for commenting NN.
  23. Thanks Daniels. I guess it has got a bit of a lonely feel. Just imagine what it must be like out there. Dead quite, nothing moving and no jets flying overhead to disturb you. Just the planet Uranus and her moons passing by. Oh and the freezing temps of course!
  24. Here is my go. By using the Perspective effect I gave the clapper board a bit of thickness and I used rotate/zoom to adjust the film reels. To be more realistic I have used a series of images from my spinning fan gif for the film . You don`t really get a selection of different photos on a movie reel as it just would not work. I also separated the top part of the clapper to show it off a bit better. I know it`s a superb tutorial but a couple of tips for making the reel and the methods I used - create all of your circles ( gradient & black ones) at the same time and arrange the layers accordingly - ie gradient layer 1, black layer 2, then gradient layer 3, black layer 4 and so on. This way you only have to go through the pan/reset process once because you can use the same settings for two layers at a time. It`s easier than creating the gradient circles, panning each one then creating the black circles and panning all over again. Then just merge the same types together and carry on to the next step. Also at step 9 it is easier to make the film reel guides for the markings by using Madjik`s Polygones plugin with the Quantity of Edges set to 4 and the Starisation set to 2. The other settings can be left at default. As all the circles you have made have been Aligned Centre the plugin will match them as it renders the lines in the center. Simples. Heck all this gabbing on and I still have not posted the image! Here it is. I have called it Carry on Clapping( I know it says Creating on the board but I changed my mind at the last minute). Thanks for such a great tut Pixey -
  25. Dryda - thanks , I am always pleased when you like my spacescapes because I know you are a bit of a space buff as well. I used to have Celestia a few years back on another laptop but then I got into PDN and never used it much so I got rid of it. Might be worth getting it again. Thanks Seerose, glad you liked it. Bbq - the blue/black colour was simply because Uranus is a blue planet so I figured on giving the whole thing a blue hue. That helped to give it a freezing cold feel as well , -305° F (-187° C) kind of cold feel! Brrr......... Helen - nice of you to say so. But ray of light? You are not confusing the ray of light with the rings are you? I never actually put a ray of light in there.
