  1. ah well, twas nice to dream still don't want to use the Gimp though! Thanks all!
  2. just copying the files across does let it run (and everything seems okay) but because there are 5 .exes in the Paint.Net folder... I get 5 icons in the PortableApps launcher I know there are also some compression/optimization things that they suggest (at http://portableapps.com/development) but they don't seem to be mandatory - though the compression hints could probably be useful for everyone It's another vector to get Paint.Net out there into the popular eye which would be a good thing. The .Net 2.0 runtime pre-req doesn't seem to be an issue (there are some apps that demand Java - which I'll need a very good reason to install - so a fairly common runtime isn't going to be a huge blocker I hope)
  3. I use the PortableApps launcher to facilitate always having the tools I need on the machine I'm using - ideally without having to mess around and install a load of stuff for one use. I know there is a GIMP version with portable installer, but if I wanted to use that I wouldn't be here I've seen some posts that suggest just copying all the files from \program files\pdn across to the USB stick or whatever, but - while it seemed to work on my quick experiement - it doesn't allow me to link them from the PortableApps launcher (not the end of the world, but adds a little more complexity) I don't pretend to know how complex a problem this would be to solve, but - for me at least - it would be a great feature to have (that and the ability to engender the user with some artistic talent!)
