This SOTW just looked like a lot of fun. I just had to try.
I created everything myself. Other then the fonts of course. So no renders or stock used.

That effect does give a nice look to that stained glass.
The way it's shaded it looks like theres more going on behind the glass then just light shining through.
I know what you mean about the bits of white. It's just that some of them are a little jagged along the edges. Maybe you could straighten them up a little or better yet, feather them some.
What ever you decide, it looks good so far.

This is a really good tut Dave.
It's just that I can't find in it when we are suppose to save the
"mask png" file.
I believe it would be at the end of step 4.
I'm not in the best of health right now and hope that I just didn't miss
it somewhere.

Thought that I'd give it a try. I call this one "Fork in the road."
I used no stocks. I took the picture of my poor old beat-up fork myself.
I guess I don't need to tell you that I drew the rest in PDN.

If you want a fire effect, download Tom Jackson's instead of mine. His is much better.
But yours is more fun.
I think it could be good for doing textures and such IMO.
This is done with 11 layers of differently drawn black and white gradients.
Each layer blending mode was set to difference.
The Burninate plug-in was used on the last layer (last gradient).

I bet it's tough just trying to do the little things in life when you have gauze taped to the roof of your mouth.

Here is mine. I have a really hard time keeping my hand from shaking while using the paintbrush as you can see on the chinese symbol, I tried everything to hide it, next time I will use a stock image instead....LOL! Anyways I hope you all enjoy.
I like the way your chinese symbol came out. It gave it a burnt-in-wood type look to it. Also, those are some healthy looking rats you've got there.

I'll try it but I've never drawn a car etc. so I just use the line/curve tool and gradients for coloring? what about gaussian blurs and different opacity's/transparency etc. because I'm going to use that even if you don't allow it. LOL!.
What if they don't enter you?
I believe that at the beginning of a contest like this, just do the best you can do with what you know to do and see how it comes out for you. If they don't like what you've done then they wont let you enter. It wont be that bad of a thing will it. Besides, then you'll learn what they want and know how to do it next time. you may even learn that it's something that you don't like doing, so you'll just enter another contest next time. Me on the other hand, I don't think I can draw very good, so I'm going to give it a try anyway. You never know.
