  1. @HELEN+Welshblue---Thanks I should get around to looking at your galleries as well, if only I wasn't so busy ------------------------------------ A nice subtle winter themed piece. I should really try to make a nice Christmas piece some time..... Ooo 666th post
  2. Well, back when I made my fruit piece (here and Here, the original PS tut called for a plastic wrap effect. Blooper directed me to the Height Field to Normal plugin. I guess it depends on the texture you're trying to make. But for my example Tried rendering clouds, then height field to normal and the Black and White. Then used a blending mode over the layer beneath it.
  3. @Topezia-- I really luv those flowers ------------------------ Fun little space scene. Last one for 2008 ^^Full size looks even better  ^^
  4. Yay! New Stuff! I'd suggest giving it a little clicky and download on my dA to see the full size. I really like this piece Most likely the last space scene for this year of 2008. Hope I get even more ideas of things to make next year.
  5. I like that planet you've got there Love the texture of the planet and the starscape. Also like the idea of the city lights. The only qualm I have is that when I look at the city lights on the dark half of the planet, I sorta think that that side is transparent and that I'm looking through the planet at the stars behind it But don't worry, it's probably just my eyes
  6. Oh wow. I haven't updated in nearly two weeks  @HELEN--Sorry it took me such a long time to reply. The paper was really straightforward. I discovered the method using GIMP, and tweaked the steps to fit Paint.NET's capabilities. Actually, I'm planning to write a mini tut in my gallery about how to make crumpled paper. Stay tuned! ----------------------- Anyways, after reading a thread on the PdN forums requesting glass tuts, I got into the mood to try out glass stuff. I never really did get a good idea as to how to make picture perfect glass.... ___________________ Actually, I have a backlog of stuff waiting to be released. I just haven't found much time to upload them. Don't worry, I'm still alive. Also, to everyone out there, I wish you guys a Happy Thanksgiving
  7. I really like that one! It puts me in the perfect winter mood Did you make those snow dots by using a median blur?
  8. Well, I think the main reason a glass tut hasn't been made is because it is really hard to make. I mean, I've been using Paint.NET for a while and I still don't have the hang of making glass objects yet ..... I remember Ash saying that he was in the process of making a glass tut, but again it is rather complicated. It would probably take a while to make a good glass piece, let alone write a tut about making one. There might be one in the future though, so don't fret  Oh, and if it helps, one good tip on making a glass object would be filling the canvas with a semi-transparent fill and then using S3D. Then play around with angles and lighting.
  9. Wow... Lotsa cool stuff happened in two weeks! There's way too many for me to name, so I'll just say nice work everone --------------- I made a crumpled paper texture
  10. Wow it's been two weeks  I haven't had a lot of time/ideas lately. Hmm... it seems like every winter I run out of ideas (I remember saying about a year ago that I was unable to make anything because I had no ideas). I guess why I seem to be making more abstracts. Anyway, I was testing some methods and I finally got what I wanted... a crumpled paper/foil texture Perhaps I'll think of something to do with it when I have time...
  11. Hi tommeke, Go to "File", then "Save As". From the Save As menu, go to the "Save as type" dropdown menu and select JPEG. Hope that helps
  12. To celebrate Halloween, i decided to go a bit different from the norm and try a photo-manipulation! What did I learn? I learned that I suck hard at photo-manipulations! However, I wanted to put something up, so I'll just put it up for you to see. yes, I realize that it's bad, but I find the theme I thought of interesting... I call it "Haunted Skyscraper", mostly because it sorta looks like its blurring in some places (kinda going for a Supernatural effect. When I say Supernatural, I mean like the TV series) and that it's vanishing into the fog. If anyone's interested, here's the original: I had to make it go from day to night Used curves+ to get the shading on the buildings as correct as possible Invisible cookie goes to whoever can figure out which building this is  Happy Halloween!
  13. Wow... I never though of curves+ I also never thought about using alpha mask. Thanks! I think this topic has helped me learn something new about spacescapes
  14. :? Didn't I mention difference clouds? Its ok, I'm not trying to point anything out lol --------- I rather like that texture. Specifically, I like the way it's colored. My textures seem either washed out or too intense... How'd you color it? Color filter? Something else? How many layers did that take you?
  15. Perhaps a short planet tut by me? 1) Blank Canvas 2) Run Clouds, but set blend mode of clouds to difference 3) Repeat (Ctrl+F) a few times (about four more times) 4) Duplicate layer and run emboss at default 5) Set the layer mode of the emboss layer to glow (or whichever works best for you) 6) Merge layer down And that's a standard texture I usually use. You could go a step further to make it rougher by: 7) Duplicating the layer again 8. Run height field to normal map plugin on default 9)Adjustments==> Black and white 10) Overlay 11) Merge layer down From there I make the planets in different ways. Sometimes an elliptical selection+alpha mask+ a distort such as lens distortion. But usually I use S3D, turn off all the lighting options and play around with the camera angles Hope that helps
  16. Transparency gradient for the change in lighting... thanks Oh, and I just remembered that I didn't answer your question about the planet in the previous piece. I made it by putting a spin on the "C4D-like renders using S3D" mini-tut Ash showed in his gallery a while back. I took a blank canvas image, made some clumps by using S3D Box mode on some random rotation settings, repeated it a few times, duplicated the layer, rotated the duplicated layer a bit, then made a new layer and started the whole thing again. After doing this for a while, I merged all layers down and used S3D, except this time in sphere mode with all lighting options turned off. I know it seems kinda confusing.... In summary it was really trial and error with the positioning of the clumps, then using S3D sphere mode on it...
  17. Yeah... I'm a slow responder to things, sorry  @LFC4EVER---Thanks for the constructive criticism. It's always good to get that once in a while  Anyways, I did think that the river was sorta meh... However, I wanted to cover up the ground between the two "mountain ranges". I dunno, I just thought that the little piece of ground looked kinda weird (read post below). I guess slapping on that river made it look worse Perhaps if I find more time, I'll work on a better looking river Also, I was never too good with nebulas. You're right in saying that it looks "slapped on"; I was trying to spice up the dull "black+noise" starfield I had. I guess I should try looking at some photo references next time. @Pipp92---Thanks ___________________________ Update time! I have one abstract here: Also, after LFC4EVER's advice, I tried to see what it would look like if I removed the river. I don't know whether it's better or not. Also, disregard the crappy sunrise/gradient thing. I just didn't want to post the ground by itself in the darkness. Yes, I know the gradient is off  Besides, I'm not planning on using this background. I'm planning on doing a piece with a bunch of surrounding planets. What do you guys think? Should I try it, or should I move on? Comments and criticism welcome
  18. I rather like that starfield As for your planetary activity dilemma, why don't you go for a planetary sunrise (Like a bright star emerging from a planet's horizon)? You've got a little bit of light, and a little bit of dark... I'm working on a variation of a sunrise (and I sorta have one on my dA), but it'd be nice to see different versions of the theme That's my opinion though. Perhaps an idea will strike you at random, like me
  19. @Topezia--- I like the watch @Boude--- Nice concept! I like how you've got a heart between the two rings ___________________________ Delving back into spacescapes! Yay~!
  20. @HELEN---Thanks! I never thought of the ring that way ________________________ You know, I've really wanted to post some C&C on some work that goes on around the forum, but I haven't had much time lately. That's why my responses to comments here are rather delayed, so I apologize. I really appreciate the comments though ________________________ Anyway, update! Foreign Planet landscape! Read the comments on the dA page for a more detailed description:
  21. Um....you're only supposed to have one forum thread in the pictorium. Read the rules.
  22. Black is often represented as a transparent background in thumbnails. Even though the background appears black, the image should still contain its transparent values if you place it on a website or something
  23. @jiZer--It's simplistic I like simplistic _____________ Red Neon Highway is what I call it:
  24. A break from realistic pieces, comics and caricatures! It's been a while since I've made an abstract... ..or a wallpaper for that matter  Oh, and I made this on the way to making the wallpaper. An interesting "water ring". It looks cooler when given a little twist <------You really have to click on this to see it properly. dA thumbnails doesn't seem to handle the transparency values of this image to well... Its cool IMO.... ....But I don't know what to do with it.... __________________ In other news, I have a few spacescenes that are being completed at the moment, as well as a neat little nine-panel comic. Stay tuned! And if anyone's interested, I made my first six panel comic (no, not with me in it) and its posted on dA. If you want, hop over for a bit and take a look
  25. Do you mean that the shadow in the image isn't coming out properly when you cut it out? If that's the case, I can't think of too many solutions to solve that. :? One guess would be to get just the letters by themselves and then use a drop shadow. Or use the primary color difference to Alpha plugin with the primary color as black, and then duplicate the layer a few times.
