  1. why don't you just using the rectangle selection tool set to fixed size? then you can just type how big you want the selection to be
  2. The sparkles plugin works great, not sure what problem you're having as "the sparkle plugin doesnt work.." doesn't say much about what type of problem you're having. if you create a new layer and place white dots on it (the smaller, the better for sizing...even white pencil works great), then run the plugin and try the different settings based on whether you want flares or flakes, random sizes or not, number of vertices, etc. to get shooting stars, set the number of flake vertices to 1 Check out the post dedicated to the sparkles plugin, and about 10 replies downward, he lists the settings he used click here
  3. the search button won't bite you... even with the built-in search, it returns scores of results for each of the topics you mentioned
  4. if your road runs horizontally, you could use polar-transformation (transform rectangular to polar) then it would be a matter of cropping off what you don't need similar to the process used in this tutorial
  5. under Layers tab at the top... press F1 while running Paint.NET and you can learn all the basic things like this
  6. could use the panelling plugin, and move one layer to where you want it, then select the next layer and ctrl+f to repeat the panelling, doing it for each layer you need moved
  7. Have you tried emboss, relief, or normal map? Looking at it, I'd try normal map, and use blend modes to get the effect you're looking for.
  8. if you haven't tried the "tile image" plugin from Curtis, try that... It has a checkbox at the bottom that you can join edges as well as the start X and start Y on it which should make it random enough looking while still keeping it tileable Once it has been tiled, you can smudge or play around with other distorts to make it more unique

  13. if that's not it, make sure you've got the primary color set to something you can see...I.E. not black text on black background
  14. there are a couple... one's called "Tile Image" made by Curtis and the other is called "Seamless Texture Maker" by MadJik Both can be found in the plugins forum, just have a look
  15. what I would do, is use the canvas size option... click on image> canvas size uncheck the "maintain aspect ratio" box set your pixel size to 1650 width, 1650 height and the important part, set the anchor point to left then save this half of the photo, naming it what you want then click undo, to undo the canvas size and repeat for the right half, naming it something different
  16. actually, if you hold CTRL down it won't help at all...shift key on the other hand, will keep it a square shape... but, Ego Eram Reputo answered the question correctly as that was the problem she was having...
  17. one possible way would be to make a rectangle selection inside the perimeter of your image, then invert the selection, then run dents, with settings to your liking, and under the "edge behavior" tab, choose transparent or fade edge plugin...not sure what effect you're going for
