Newbie: Question about canvas sizes
Ego Eram Reputo replied to Beverly Dugar's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Ah yes, but if this is a poster with "WARNING - ROCKS" on it you could happily use 200dpi and still get it professionally printed. It would look Ok because it would be designed to be read from some metres away. I asked about the size because it didn't seem to conform to the A? paper sizes (http://www.papersizes.org/a-paper-sizes.htm). Thanks for the clarification. How come you guys don't just use A1 (23.4"x 33.1")? @Beverly: 24" x 36" x 300DPI (high resolution printing) = a canvas size of 7200 x 10800 pixels. 24" x 36" x 200DPI (medium resolution printing) = a canvas size of 4800 x 7200 pixels. If in doubt - always go for the higher resolution. -
Thanks Red. I have a copy of the concise Oxford on hand. It prefers colour over color and favourite over favorite amongst many other. Me too!

Newbie: Question about canvas sizes
Ego Eram Reputo replied to Beverly Dugar's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Hello Beverly and welcome to the forum. Paint.net should be able to handle this job. Two things we need to know: 1. Are the dimensions you gave in inches or centimeters? 2. What level of detail will be shown - tiny fine lines or large block text? We need to know this to get an idea of the print quality you're after. -
Not a problem. I had to check the release date myself. I couldn't believe it was released a whole year ago. If you find errors or omissions in the Index please let me know. I'm happy to be corrected and it makes the plugin index better for us all. Just yesterday I ran the descriptions through a spell checker. Ugh. The results weren't pretty Corrections will appear next month. @Seerose - thank you.

April Update Four new plugins this month. Enjoy! Color Range effect - @ReMake. This plugin allows you to create a mask by isolating a color subset of the original image. Colors outside of the target range will be set to transparent. Useful for selecting objects in the image by color. Also available in Russian. Based in part on the Color Target plugin by rwp80. Copy Selection Coords - @toe_head2001. Copies the current selection coordinates to the clipboard in the format: left, top, width, height. NB plugin link is in post #3 of the thread. Icon, Cursor, and Animated Cursor Format - Updated - @TechnoRobbo. An updated version of the Icon, Cursor, and Animated Cursor Filetype plugin. This version adds support for Icon & cursor filetypes, including animated cursors to paint.net 4.0.9+ Ruler - @toe_head2001. Renders a ruler using the specified units & sub units. This will NOT measure anything and will NOT convert pixel length to another unit of length.

Edit an image by color
Ego Eram Reputo replied to Donal's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Not a problem Donal. Welcome to the forum -
It shows up as 737x729 pixels in size. It's smaller than my recommended 1125px square because its scanned at 200DPI and not 300DPI. Honestly - you'll notice the difference. Yes - as long as you save it in a file format which supports transparency like PNG. Don't assume that. Better to make the area transparent if you want it to be transparent and white if you want it to be white. This thumbnail links to the size canvas you should be working with (when viewed at 100%) to get that sized printout at 300DPI - see the yellow borders? Fill those right to the edge.

Really dumb question about deselect
Ego Eram Reputo replied to PedgeJameson's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
There is no such thing! We all started somewhere and many of us still remember how hard it was to figure things out on our own. You'll find a wealth of information on the paint.net website: http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/ (tip: you can press F1 in paint.net to open your browser on this website) -
1. Select the Rectangle Select tool 2. In the Tool Bar, set the Mode to Fixed Size, the Units to Pixels and the size to 128 x 32. 3. Make a selection where you want it. 4. Copy the selection with Ctrl + C 5. Paste the selection into a new layer with Ctrl + Shift + V 6. The move tool is automatically activated when pasting - press the down arrow on your keyboard twice to move the selection down two pixels. 7. Copy the selection again with Ctrl + C 8. Paste into a new layer with Ctrl + Shift + V 9. flip the newest layer horizontally with Layers > Flip horizontally 10. Use the Paneling plugin to move the layer down 32 pixels (for repeats of this step you can press Ctrl + F). It looks complex, but is surprisingly quick.

Error during installation of PaintNet 4.0.9
Ego Eram Reputo replied to Asterix's topic in Troubleshooting & Bug Reports
Give us your system specs. At what point does the installation fail? Have you tried installing .net 4.6.1 prior to installing paint.net? -
That's not file size that's image size (height x width in pixels). A good resolution for printing is 300 DPI, so multiply your finished print size by 300 to get the image dimensions. 3.75" * 300 DPI = 1125 pixels x 1125 pixels. If your image is significantly smaller than this I recommend you redo it. Having created this image, don't compromise the quality by saving as a jpg - save as a lossless PNG after you've saved the master file as a PDN to preserve the layer structure.

updated the bad word filter - lets see if this works... nope. Can't seem to get the filter to remove the link. I'll work on it later.
