Image Umbrella: Signatures, Avatars, Logos & Text
Blooper replied to david.atwell's topic in The Pictorium
The swirls on the sphere are really nice and crisp, good job on that. But I don't think the border looks good (they're not always necessary). You could also try another font, sleeker/more simple and less... Childish? looking if you see what I mean? -

1) So you think I should lie to you and tell you I like it? If that's how you think you'll improve, then sure. 2) Read again, I said you didn't use the comments anyways. 3) Why don't I try? Do you think you're entitled to my help? Do you think I'm your personal art assistant? Like I said, stop complaining, you have no idea how much better it is to only get negative CC than none at all. -

Because I don't like it? Hate to be harsh, but you don't really do anything with the criticism anyway as far as I can tell... instead of complaining about it, be happy that you do get helpful CC. -

Practice makes perfect. Plastic surgery also, but that's beside the point. You added way too many effects on the new render, it looks blurry and of very low quality. -

That's because you should never use the magic wand for cutting out renders (except for some sprites). http://cmdsketchpad.com/tutorial.php?tutid=2 http://cmdsketchpad.com/tutorial.php?tutid=3 -

Grab the water on the top-right corner, rotate it 180°, and put the just under his left pectoral. Left, as in the Batman's left. Your right. It really looks nice, you could also try decreased the splashes' opacity just a tad. Good job. [Edit] Also, apply image, duplicate twice, autolevel the top layer, set to difference, merge with the layer under it, And make the contrast -100. Set this to overlay. That'll change the hue, but it'll have no effect on the luminosity (50% luminosity on overlay has no effect) -
It's too saturated, maybe that's what you're thinking of. Just because you do it on purpose, doesn't mean it looks good. Remember that.

No, you don't. Usually if someone doesn't point out that they want comments on their sig, then they don't. And just don't outline/add drop shadows to fonts that are dirty like the one you used in your signature. Long story short, it doesn't look good. -

Thanks Try not using outlines or drop shadows on grungy fonts like that, because it's worn out. If it was outlined, the outline would have worn down with the text, and it wouldn't be around the stains. -

Why add text? More often than not people don't do it right anyways. My only suggestions for f55 would be to make the smudging just a tad smoother on the edges for the first tag. yy10, if you used brushes to make that background, stay away from them. Also add effects (smudging, C4Ds on brightening blend modes) on top of your render, so that it doesn't look like you just slapped it on and decreased the transparency in some spots. -

Atradese, he meant that the everyone seems to use the water plug-in. Musical Maniac, water - especially frozen - is rarely that blue. It's usually white, green and gray, depending on how shallow the ice and how dirty the water. Try some desaturating and hue shifting, that should get you closer to what you want. -
Oh wow, I just saw that. I really suggest you don't follow that tip, or else you'll have obvious polar inversion in every single one of your pieces. If your picture seems too monotone, flatten - copy - undo twice - paste in a new layer. Duplicate this. Run autolevel on the top layer. Set it to difference and merge it with the layer just under it. Set the resulting layer to screen/additive/color dodge and adjust the opacity. If your base image was already very bright, you can invert the Intensity (if you don't the plugin, Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and pull the Hue slider to the extreme left or the extreme right, then Invert Colors) and set the obtained layer to Multiply/Color Burn.

How do you make the swirly lights?
Blooper replied to trainman2's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Well I don't know what precise settings The Stranger used, but it looks like he just used a round hard brush at 100% strength on the bottom left of the render, then set that to color dodge. The smudge beside his head... it could be anything, honestly. I'm not sure whether he smudged the render or something else, either, so that's all I know I don't know if he's still around, but if you ask him he'll probably answer. -

Flip, it's well done but everyone does it. The glassy button effect is kind of tiring after being used and abused so much. The font choices aren't too great, either. Maybe you should try making the text seem like it's on the surface of the sphere rather than just floating? -

Atradese, I like the 3D of the hexagons, but the clouds don't look right. Can't put the finger on why exactly. Also, try going for multiple colors in each piece. -

I'm willing to bet the first one is smudging on color dodge or additive or a combination of both. -
Same as the answer for oma. Thanks for stopping by! I think he's talking about the cyan in the armor. Really does look like color dodge/burn or glow/reflect.

Or a blue color filter? Either way, that was probably part of the car advertisement. -
I don't save PNG's, only PDNs. I use Upload To if I need to show it to someone.

Did you use the Negation blend mode? That or Curves?

Looks good, not sure how much you did to the original picture though... Did you just put the PDN logo and type "kinzo" on it? -
Very nice, good shadow work. A little blurry on the edges though, you could try selecting (0% tolerance) all around the arm, filling with black on a new layer, using outline object in black as well and using that as an alpha mask.

Art is art, no rules. K, well let me have a vertical signature then. Seriously though, you're going to have trouble with composition if you make your canvases too thin. -

You're going to have a very hard time making good sigs with such a wide and thin canvas. As a rule of thumb, keep your height:width ratio below 1:4.
