  1. It's not very successful, it's messy. Look at Pipp's Banks tag, you see how the smudging is shaped (not the texture, the triangle shape of it)? This is what you should be going for. Not smudging all over. Try a hard round brush, 50% quality, 10-15px.
  2. I messed up the link. Fixed it, the full version should be 807*499 px.
  3. Comments and criticism welcome. Also, add my new dA
  4. heh, I got flamed for being hypercritical this summer
  5. I don't like the wireframes at all, or the orange C4Ds. The smudging is good, you should add more and set it to color dodge or additive; it seems dirty right now because it's black. Of course CD/Additive won't do anything if there's any bright parts in your smudging, so you should try throwing some yellow or olive green in there before smudging. Though you also need some black in it, color dodge looks better with a black background than with a transparent one. If you want to use C4Ds/wireframes for such a static tag (the stock has no action in it), flow should be "slow" and short as opposed to "fast" and long, you don't want to use c4ds/wfs with long lines. If you did the color work (gradient mapping etc.) on the stock yourself, I tip my hat to you. I agree about the concrete wall, you should try getting rid of it and continuing the metal fence and the sky. All in all, a good start, but also a lot of room for improvement :]
  6. I know that silly willy. rofl I'm sorry, a lot of people get confused over this
  7. By effects, he doesn't mean filters like B&W, brightness/contrast, but things like splatters, C4Ds, smudging, etc. Or at least I think that's what he means.
  8. I think you should make your canvases wider. Also, the effects are messy (particularly the gray ones) and the wireframes seem out of place. You've grown a lot since you first came here. Good job.
  9. tone down the green and it'll be perfect. very nice effects by the way, I'm impressed :]
  10. I disagree. The effect has been done before, same thing for the glassy shine... Nope, I wouldn't say it's original.
  11. Seems similar to Color to Alpha with a B&W layer under, with clearer settings. Good job! :]
  12. Same thing. Open a 250*250 canvas, and drag a black to white gradient, top to bottom. Select the left side of the canvas, and run gradient mapping with a black - transparent gradient. Press Ctrl+I, and run Alpha masking with invert mask checked. The difference is obvious. Get your color picker. On the gradient map side, no matter where you pick, in your HSV sliders, you'll find that V = 0. On the mask side, V = whatever it was equal to before running the mask. In this case, it wouldn't change anything, but it's a bad habit to get into
  13. Color dodge too, if you're using effect/bubble C4Ds. yy, it looks like you median blurred your effects and they just seem kind of messy :\
  14. Good work, pipp. I really like the colors in V1. I don't like The Maple Origins and Birth of a Hero though. They make me want to punch someone in the throat.
  15. Good work Kemaru, but if you're going to go with monotone, avoid blue, it's pretty much the default color for everything.
  16. I don't really have a say in this, but one color? That kind of break the concept of a color scheme, and you might as well just use the dark gray.
  17. Nope. Alpha mask only makes full whites fully transparent. It makes med grays 50% transparent, etc. Gradient mapping makes everything black, the only changing value is transparency.
  18. Hey, at least you tried. That's better than anyone who didn't.
