  1. I edit engineering tif files. I cannot switch to another format due to company standards. TIF files are growing from 519 KB to over 7MB when doing some simple edits: covering existing items with white (whiting out), adding text, and adding other images (disclaimers, etc). The images I'm adding are all under 577 KB. What would be the cause for this? When we are viewing these images in our viewing software (within our PDM program), the images are loading very slow because they are so big size-wise. These are technical drawings, some as big a 44" x 34", and I cannot change the image dimensions. If I change DPI, the image clarity is compromised. I can see file size growing somewhat, but not this much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. I use paint.net all day long in my career - I have the task of editing age old technical drawings that have been scanned. Some go back 50+ years. I'm looking for a plug-in on steroids similar to the "Reduce Noise" that is already contained within Paint.net. Some of our drawings are QUITE speckled and the existing command doesn't "despeckle" enough. I've looked on the forum and came across "GREYCstoration Wrapper" , which was supposed to have been replaced by the "Reduce Noise" plug-in. Both of those return an error page when I try to view the post. So would anyone else have any suggestions for something to despeckle that's a bit stronger? Any help is appreciated. In the bad areas, currently I use the block tool in white and cover them. Thanks so much!
  3. I'm having a heck of a time moving text once I've placed it. I assumed I could just grab the text and move it as long as I'm on that layer. I'm finding this isn't the case. What's the trick to moving text once placed? Thank you!
  4. Nope - already mentioned that I've tried all that already. I worked with this for 4 hours this morning. .net FW doesn't need to be repaired - all Windows Live services running fine and they all require .net FW.

  6. I too am having this error. The drive on which paint.net was installed, failed. This is NOT the same drive as my Windows Vista Ultimate installation. I uninstalled PDN with RevoUninstaller, and deleted all registry items using RegSeeker. I use the Windows Install cleanup utility and there were no references for PDN. I went into services and made sure that Windows Module Installer was running. My temp dir has write and read permissions. I have read all posts on this topic and cannot find ANY resolution to re-install PDN. It is not my .NET framework because my boot drive or windows install has not changed and all other apps that require .NET FW are running fine (Windows Live Writer and Windows FolderShare). So why can't the error be fixed? I realize new development is important, but this error is a BIGGIE that many people cannot get past. I AM using the latest version which I just dloaded today. To expect someone to have to format and re-install Windows because we cannot get past this error is ludicrous.
  7. Upon opening a tif file and attempting to print it, paint.net launches the photo printing wizard within XP. I get to the second step of this wizard, and I get an error that "There is not enough memory to print your pictures. Please close any open programs and try again." Any idea what may be causing this error? I'm using a fairly beefy machine at work, so memory is not the real issue. Thanks in advance!
