  1. That's basically what I was trying to suggest, I just didn't phrase it very well.
  2. This really is a rather ingenious effect, well done on discovering how to accomplish it.
  3. __|__ { ^. ^ } | | |*****| Ɔ=== ===C | | | | ##### {|} {|} {|} {|} {|} {|} That's what you're looking for, although I really don't think that broken ASCII robots help get your point across. As for the question, with some clever layering and a plugin like Colour Chop by n d or something similar to it, you can simulate this effect. By the way, what do you mean "what font does the editor use"? If you mean the post editor on the forums, there's a choice of fonts at the top when you use the full editor. If you mean something else, then I'm afraid I don't know what - would you care to elaborate? Finally, there is no apostrophe in "agrees" and there should be a space after the period in "mr.robot" - that is, it should be more like "Mr. Robot". Sorry, OCD. Apologies if I'm being insensitive and English isn't your first language. Have a nice day! Rubrica

You could always try Displacement Map, or is that the same thing?
  5. And if you want to use multiple effects, if I recall correctly, you can use ScriptLab and Ctrl+F.

Hah, I love the new piece. Being British, that's always been a favourite meme of mine, though I like the bit "American-ising" it in the bottom right corner. All of your work is lovely, and it feels very finished - keep up the good work.
  7. Also, if you haven't already, read this: The Pleasantville Effect
  8. As of yet, there isn't a way to do this. You will have to move each layer one by one. As for a plugin to automate this, that's also not possible, as plugins can only influence the "active", or "selected" layer. Sorry.
  9. OK, voting is now on, people! Get voting and we can have the next competition as soon as possible.
  10. YAY! At last, a third entry! With that, I feel better about closing the entry period; I will shortly be updating the OP with voting details. Without further adieu... Locked! Temporarily, anyway. Changed, as I am allowing people to post their votes in this thread should they wish to vote publicly.
  11. That, despite the fact that I don't entirely agree with it, is one of the best rebuttals I've read in a while (and, this time, very polite). I'm not going to say anything else.
  12. OK. Let's assume that you're being justified here. First, cut vs. delete. They both achieve the same thing. EXACTLY the same thing. Unless, of course, you want to keep the background for something else, which is entirely possible. But it's highly unlikely; you're following a tutorial designed to help you GET RID of the background. So, that's your first argument invalidated in that they are doing the same thing.. Next: the wording... where's the problem in the other tutorial's wording? Oh, let me think... there isn't a problem. There can't be a problem, anyway, can there? Because according to you, your wording is perfect, and it is practically identical to the other tutorial's wording. Due to the law of binary relations, this means that there is no problem n the other tutorial, you've just rephrased what the it says. So, we must now acknowledge that the two tutorials are identical. In every way. I don't care about the title, I don't care about whether the "gaps thing" is "obvious", they're identical. Onto the next thing; in one of your other posts, you clearly stated that you had read the other tutorial before you posted this one in that you were "just skimming the thread". Therefore, it is your own fault you're in this mess; you obviously thought that Simon's tutorial was similar to yours if you took the time to examine it, yet you could only be bothered to skim it? Sounds more to me like you're twisting what you actually did to defend your point of view. Now, another thing is that instead of politely accepting what is a perfectly valid question and answering it, you have decided to be arrogant. It is very clear you HAVE made an attempt to be polite, however you've really failed. First, you said, and I quote, "as for the images I can easily re-size them, once you decide to lock/not lock this thread.". No. You do NOT say that. It's not up to you to negotiate with the moderators, who, by the way, deserve RESPECT, you do what they ask you to. It is clearly stated in the rules for posting a tutorial that the images must be 800 pixels in their largest dimension, which shows that you didn't actually read those rules. Finally, the medicine bottle example is a COMPLETELY different situation. Seriously, how is that similar to this? I'm sorry, I really am. It IS clear that you put effort into this. It shows! The images are good (just, of course, too big) and you have made an effort to write it up well. But when you start talking back to moderators and posting tutorials that only differ slightly from other ones without thinking it through... that's when people start arguing. Have a nice day! Rubrica
  13. Although I can't really be of any use concerning the individual effect, perhaps, if you don't have too many, you could try looking through all the plugins in your list and trying them if necessary? Of course, I'm sure someone will come along in a moment with the exact name of the plugin, so really it's just something to do while you wait.
  14. Could you perhaps give us an example with screenshots? I'm not quite sure what you mean...
  15. I'm sorry I can't help you any further, but I'm glad you appear to be successful in your research. I as just wondering, why do heightmaps need to be 16-bit? It REALLY annoyed me when I had to use them, and it would be so much easier to use 8-bit.
  16. Ah, I just remembered the one I used: RAW Therapee.
  17. I had to do this for some heightmaps too recently, and I can say that if you head over to the "Sims 3" forums and search around a bit there (or post a new topic) you'll find a program that suits your purposes perfectly. Can't remember what it was called...
  18. Also, if I recall correctly, this is a feature planned for v4.0.
  19. ^ That. Really, it's up to the person to decide which competition they want to enter; they need to be able to gauge their abilities. However, should people be allowed to participate in BOTH competitions?
  20. I like this idea too, however I think that there should be a novice and an advanced category, so as not to confuse the newbies while still providing a fun challenge for the more experienced members. The question that this presents is whether the same person should host both competitions or whether they should both be hosted by different people who correspond when necessary? Another thing is this; if there were two difficulty categories, would the advanced one be a harder version of the novice tutorial or a completely different tutorial?
  21. The creator of minecraft (a browser sandbox game), Notch, uses Paint.NET to create the art for his games. He recently used it to make Metagun, his entry to Ludum Dare 18
  22. Oops, sorry for not seeing that. That's much better. All in all, the technique is quite good! I'm sure it would, as you said, work better on more rounded shapes.
  23. Lovely tutorial, and quite a clever way of getting to the end result, however when in the last step you say "adjust as shown here"... nothing is "shown here". Admittedly, it's not really needed, as people can probably do the final step themselves in one way or another, but still...
