  1. If you don't mind my shameless derailing of the topic, might I ask where you got your username from? It's just that I can't help but be amused when I look at the recent posts and see "by Jove!" (effectively). It just caught my eye, is all.
  2. Ah, Rusty! How nice to see you here! I can inform you that there is a grid option in Paint.NET, it's the grid icon to the direct right of the zoom function. Enjoy, and make sure you show the MineCraft forums the project when it's done!
  3. Of course you are, just not for yourself. I'll edit the OP.
  4. The entry period is over! Voting begins!
  5. It was WAY funnier if you were there as it happened.
  6. If the things you want to do a strictly effects and adjustments, you can use ScriptLab to automate it for you to an extent.
  7. Small question: is there not somewhere an archive of the old forum? I.e., before the switch happened and the Tutorials+ section was created.
  8. I'm not quite sure his mistake compares to that of Cellus.
  9. Do you mind if we see it full-sized?
  10. nestoflo: Wow, those are some brilliant cars! Did you use reference images to draw real car models, or just make them up as you went along? PsychoHarmonic: The new comp has just started.
  11. The results are in! I knew that creating such an open theme would elicit very good responses this month, and I intend to do it for comp #10. Until then, however, we have other comps to get through, so let's end this one as quickly as possible. I can reveal that the votes are as follows: In joint last place, I am sorry to announce that Gazek, supersoni183 and PsychoHarmonic received no votes, although I'm sure that there were people that forgot to vote, and would have voted for you. Next, with one vote, is a perfectly respectable Leonte! So, in second place, with three votes, very close behind the winner, it's St1cki3! That, of course, leaves the wonderful Mayor_McSteeze as the winner, with 4 votes! Well done! You have until the 13th to choose a new theme, by which date I will choose one have you not done so. Thank you all for your votes and entries, everyone, and I hope to see you soon for Competition #6! Voting Guidelines Voting in this comp is simple: if you want your vote to be public, post it in this thread. If you want it to be private, PM me. It's that simple! Voting ends on the 8th. Also, you can vote if you've entered the competition, just not for yourself. Deadline: 30th of September, 2010 The entry period is now over. See above for info on voting. Welcome back to the Pixel Competition, as hosted by me and as sponsored by all those cute little pixels on the site. The theme this time is... OK, well actually, this is where I take a break from the formulaic first post in the topic, because the theme is a little different this time round; you can enter ANYTHING you want! Simple, no? Yes. Rules - Entries made before the contest are not allowed. - Only one entry per person. - Layers are allowed. - Partial and full transparency is allowed (I used to frown on this, however I have since been persuaded) - Any inspiration and stock (not that you're likely to be using stock images) must be linked to or otherwise given credit. - MS Paint may NOT be used, I'm afraid. I know you could in competition #1, but you can't this time. - No cheating! Naturally. With that, I don't believe there is any further need for discussion, however if there is anything you wish to say, please move it to the discussion thread. It can be found here.
  12. nestoflo: No, sorry, that was just an example of how the open theme will encourage new people to enter. pdnnoob: Hang on, I'll set the new topic up. EDIT: Comp 5 is up! I've given you a much longer deadline this time, we'll see how that goes. I'll leave this unlocked for you to carry on congratulating the participants, but I'm moving it to the Archives.
  13. OK, now, I've decided on something that should raise the number of entries; it's going to be a "general" theme. That is to say, there will be no specific theme, you can enter any piece of art you want, as long as it was made specifically for the competition. I think the reason we've had so few entries is because: a. People think pixel art is too hard. b. The theme has been too specific and limiting. By making it an open competition, we can solve both of these problems; what's that, you say - you do spacescapes, but you think pixel art is too hard? Then do a PIXEL ART SPACESCAPE! Yeah, you heard me - see what I mean? As for how the theme for #6 will be decided, I've yet to work that out. Either the winner of #4 chooses, the winner of #5 chooses, or the winners or #4 and #5 collaborate to come up with a theme. So... thoughts?
  14. When you say "masterpiece" do you mean you've already made it? Because all entries must be made specifically for the competition.
  15. OK, I'm going to update the post with results. nestoflo: Hopefully, VERY soon.
  16. Isn't that a little... convoluted? Of course, it is a good practice to get into. Using good plugins, that is.
  17. No, that won't work. All it will do, if I recall correctly, is it will save it as a .PNG, for example, but be named something like .XRF, which will, I think, cause it to become corrupted or something else nasty like that. Your best bet, as Paint?NET does not natively support these filetypes, is to look in the Plugin Index for some Filetype Plugins that do what you want. If you wait a moment, I'll get you the link... EDIT: There you go. If you want, I'll check if they've got what you're looking for. EDIT: No, we don't, I'm afraid. Sorry I couldn't be of more use.
  18. Seeing as how the brown lines are aliased, this ought to be easy. First, select the magic wand tool, and set the tolerance to 0%. Also, make sure you are in global mode. The, click one of the brown lines (carefully, making sure not to click anything else. Now, press Ctrl+Shift+I. This will invert the selection. Finally, press Delete. Tada! Of course, being a newbie, some of that terminology might be unfamiliar to you, so just ask if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
  19. Voting ends on the tenth. Also, the next competition's going to be rather special. More details soon.
  20. You're looking for CustomBrushesMini.
  21. While that would be the best choice, the OP says he cannot upgrade; it "will not let [them] download the newer version".
  22. Yes, well, as I said, I think I've gone too far already.
  23. That is honestly the EXACT phrase I uttered to myself, but I felt that what with me nitpicking about the "agree's" it might be going too far to mention it (though I think I have already). Seriously, though, agree's? mr.robot? This thread does slightly make me want to weep.
