  1. Thanks guys I have completed my first PopOut picture. It took a long time and the result was only fair. However I am pleased with the try. Hopefully I will speed up and improve with practice. Thanks to all who helped me and for a good programme. Lem
  2. Hi Ash I have just done another shape and tried again an it worked fine. I wonder if I hadn't been careful enough drawing my lines and leaving some lines not touching? Lem
  3. http://s203.photobucket.com/albums/aa34 ... =jade3.jpg Hi Ash. I only have 1 layer in this photo. I then used ctrl Magic wand, paint bucket in the drawn shape and got half the picture painted ( all areas painted were active) You can see the double lines are round the drawn shape suggesting that only the lines are active. Lem
  4. I realise that but when I click inside the shape why do only the lines get selected and do exactly the same with the rectangle and elipse and the inside is active. Lem
  5. Thinking about what you said about selecting the lines, Earlier I used broad lines to outline a shape and only the lines were selected. Lem
  6. I drew the lines and used the magic wand and clicked inside the drawn lines which then selected the outside of the shape. then using the paint bucket tool clicked inside the active shape. I followed these steps for the other two selections as well and they both worked.Regards Lem
  7. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa34 ... /jade2.png Hi Paintboy Here is the screenshot and thanks for your help. In the image I have selected a rectangle and elipse and painted and drawn a shape and selected it but it wouldn't paint. you can see the dotted line around the shape showing it is active.
  8. Hi Paintboy Would you run me thru how to send a screenshot in the reply box or give me your e.mail and I will send it there
  9. When I select an area with the magic wand then try to paint the selected area it won't paint. If I use either the rectangle select tool, lasso select or ellipse select tools in the same area I have no problem. What do I need to do to solve this problem. Regards lem
  10. Hi Boltbait, I may have fixed my problem. When drawing I was too ecconomical when drawing my lines and made a 3 sided rectangle using the frame as the forth side. Also I discovered that because there was too much contrast in my picture I had to adjust the tolerance slider and make my drawing lines thick enough to allow the wand to see where the edge of my selected area was. Thanks for your help
  11. Hi Boltbait I have sent a couple of e.mails with screenshots of my prob. I have just tried with only one layer, drew a shape on it. selected magic wand selected my shape and tried to paint but no avail. I inverted selection and painted the whole screen. So proves I am painting on only one layer
  12. no will not paint. Funny thing after using the wand, the whole layer and the area drawn are both selected
  13. oops will adjust before using the wand. sorry
  14. still didn't paint after lowering way down
  15. Hi Boltbait. I have followed your instructions and after selecting with the magic wand in the drawn area, the whole layer is selected ie marching lines in both the drawn area and around the outside of the layer. (I can paint this whole area) but if I invert the selection and only have the area I want painted selected I can't paint anything
  16. Hi Guys Is there any way to modify the basic "select" rectangle shape by pulling it to a different shape ie. different sides different lengths. If I use the lasso tool I cant get nice straight lines freehand. I want to make a "Popout" photo and have got stuck on spongey437's tutorial
  17. Hi Guys and thanks to all. I closed everything, didn't save and started again and all is back to normal. I am having fun exploring the many features of this great programme.
  18. Hi again Crazy Dan I have had another look. I can "select a rectangle " ( or other shape)in the tools menu but can't form a rectangle or other shape even though the pointer is visible. Does this help or can you understand what I am saying?
  19. Hi Crazy Man Dan. I posted a reply to your comment but it somewhere dissapeared so I will repeat it. I did as you said. I could see the 2 small squares changing colour but no lines showed eventho the nubs were showing
  20. Hi I am a new user to Paint and am playing with the features to see what it can do. I have somehow lost the ability to draw lines and curves.I get the nubs but with invisable lines. also I want to have a picture 'stand out' from its background. I have read the tutorial by Spongey437 and would like further help from someone to further explain working with layers. Looking forward to recieving help
