thanks for the help....it's not perfect, but i've only had this program for about 48 hours...so i'm really happy with it

hrmm i'm following all the way up to step where you copy layer 2 and paste to layer 5. then when i go and draw my gradiant, i don't get the solid colored sphere. as soon as i click to draw the gradiant, i end up seeing the colored part, the silver, and the white. this is my 3rd time trying it, and i have no clue as to what i'm missing...
