  1. Good suggestion & I'll try to implement it. But, problem is--without going on in excruciating detail--these are PAL DVDs, so they are VOB files, which makes everything much more of a pain in the butt. Esp if you want to not just save single frames but also know exactly what frame you're selecting. And have a step feature to select them with. VLC, for ex, can handle VOB files, unlike other progs, but it's made for packets so it can't deal with frame-select. Many media players can't do this either (even if they have a step feature they don't give frame info) ...because, I assume, most people don't want or need that feature, so basically I had to find a way to export to Mpeg2 & work from there. (Ulead or something higher end would probably save me the hassle of converting but I can't afford that stuff.) So anyway I convert them with Streamclip (which is a great little program--fast, free, works beautifully); then find the frames I need with VirtualDubMod. From there it was either IrfanView, which is good for a lot of stuff but not this, so much, or just Micro$oft Paint, which as we all know is, ah, kind of limited. But free--I can't afford Photoshop. Thus I emigrated here. I'll see if I can't get better qualify from png files, will post if they look significantly improved--thanks for the suggestions! --e
  2. Hi Ash! Yes, I know--but I can't bug people each time I want help, so was hoping that there was a general set of procedures I could follow, if you see what I mean?... Excellent! I'll go check that out, many thanks! Ok, maybe I'm being too fussy then? I mean, I can sharpen the first pic, obviously, & other than that I guess it's okay; the sky in the second pic looks like it's kind of... chunky, I don't know the word--like pieces of color are just missing, I assume because I saved it down to such a small size. So I am not sure if anything can be done there. Thanks again for helping, I appreciate it--and the fast replies from people! I guess I'll just learn as I go, then, with each pic. --e
  3. Hi Rick, yes--3.08, sorry. Thanks! Ash: Hi! Post a pic...? Why? I mean--how will that help? me <<--- confused. It's a set of PAL DVDs; I'm doing a piece for a website, & am trying to figure out the best way to ensure image-quality looks as good as (or better than) that of the DVDs, which weren't mastered as well as one might hope. I have a number of screencaps to work with, so everything's variable; indoor shots, outdoor, daytime, night, etc. I'll look around here tomorrow to figure out how to post something if you think that'll help... I just thought surely someone else is using the program for this purpose or one like it (ie working with media images, as opposed to images a person's created), & that maybe there was stuff I could do, a series of steps, some kind of 'noise'-reduction feature or plug-in, that might enhance image-quality. Thanks for the fast replies! --e
  4. Hi, Newbie question. I'm hoping someone can point me to an already-existing tutorial or helpful thread on how to best clean up a single frame exported from a DVD. Beyond using Sharpen, I'm at a loss. Is there some kind of filter I should try, a series of steps I can use? I searched in Help & on the Forums but couldn't find anything. Running XP w/Paint Net 3.0. Thanks very much!
