  1. Thanks guys! I just noticed that the rim didn't have the depth I wanted... So I fixed it again. --- Looks cool Trek. Very abstractish and different.
  2. Following bb00's advice (I experimented and came up with my own way of doing it. ) about the rim, I came up with this. Before:
  3. That simple? Ooo, I'll have to get right on that. Just so we're clear. That's a White <-> Black gradient, right?
  4. Hmm, they might be different. But to me it sounds like it would be the same general concept as Auto-Save, which is beyond Paint.NET's capabilities for the moment. (Without being a hassle to the users) Save ridiculously often is the best help I can offer you.
  5. This has been suggested time after time. It's planned for the 4.0 release... but you'll be waiting for awhile. The Rules Popular Feature Request
  6. I really like that. ... Hmm, now I just have to sit and scratch my head while I ponder how you gave the rim such a sense of depth. :?
  7. Hmm, I've never had hands-on experience with that to be honest. But I think your best bet would be to make some new layers and drop their opacity to about 150 or lower. Start coloring in your desired colors, then just make more new layers and do it all over again repeat. Since they're transparent they'll all work with each other. (Unless you'd rather have them solid. Semi-transparent layers will let you see what you're doing a little bit better.) As far as making them very realistic... that's all about how talented you are. The color selection system is very 'broad', and you can get many different shades/hues that will compliment each other with ease. It all comes down to how you "eyeball" your pictures. Hope that helps.
  8. Ash, basically, covered that already. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5834 Just put the little dots where you want them and play with the transparency setting in Shape3D.
  9. You can find it here. Many Photoshop effects can be done with Paint.NET... it usually just takes a few more steps. I'm trying to think of ways to work around PdN's limitations. For example, I mocked the Inner Bevels and such using Shape3D to help out with the lighting. Haha. It's a French Photoshop tutorial that was translated into English and is now being translated into an entirely different program. Grapevine anyone?
  10. Hmm... the new one has a pretty harsh transition. I found a remarkable tutorial on making button like things in Photoshop... Here's my first try at converting it to PdN. It's still not quite close enough to the original for me. More tinkering!
  11. http://forum.crystalxp.net/index.php?showtopic=4234 I know there are dozens of 'glass button' tutorials. But I just stumbled upon this Photoshop tutorial that has the most gorgeous glass buttons I've ever seen! Reading through it, I sort of understand it. And I totally see how it would be done in Photoshop... but this isn't the case with Paint.NET. It relies very heavily on Photoshop's Adjustment Layers and such. I happen to be fortunate enough to own a copy of Photoshop, so that's not really the problem. But I'd love so much to see this kind of quality done with PdN. (Which, sadly, may not be possible. ) --- I'm going to keep toying around with it myself. But I figured I'd post this to see if it sparks inspiration in anyone. I'm thinking you could rig up most of it with Gradient Mapping and Curves. But I haven't had a chance to really try it yet as it's quite late and I'm just heading off to bed. Good luck to you all. I'm sure if we put our heads together we can break this thing!... But not now. I'm too sleepy. --- Edit: Grr... I hate having PdN induced insomnia... Here's my first real crack at it. The only thing I can't quite get is giving the rims are sense of depth.
  12. And it does just that. It's pretty much seamless. Looks great!
  13. Nice! I concur. Very nice. --- Here's my new deviantID. I'm still working on taking a photo of myself that I like enough to make into a signature... :? I used Paint.NET to make it one of the prettyfulist* pictures of myself. Mostly (ok, nearly exclusively) used pyrochild's Gradient Mapping and ended up with this cool, sepia-ish thing. Thanks for writing that for us! Like most people... I tend to have that goofy smile every time I try. Straight faces seem to work without making me look too depressed. *I can make up words! Yay me!
  14. howd'ya make the clouds? i have to know.. i just got to know. lol I'm not sure. But judging from this thread (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=21818) I'm guessing that they were made with something besides Paint.NET. The possibility of me being wrong is always there too.
  15. Please read the rules before posting again, as this thread title is way too non-specific. Also... I don't really understand your question. A plugin that makes the picture look like wood? Generates random wood texture? Makes trees? Overthrows the American government with wood?
  16. Ok. Reverse his suggestion. Drop the opacity of the new layer first then color it in.
  17. Actually, I don't know about such a tutorial. I certainly didn't write it if there is one. And thanks for the compliment, but Panhead deserves credit for the fractal I'm using now.
  18. You could play with the Hue/Saturation to try and match the colors a little bit better. Maybe Curves or Levels too. But Hue/Sat sounds like the easiest way to go to me. Then just blur the center or use a transparent gradient. ---
  19. There's this? viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3113 Everyone has different thoughts of glass. Any particular 'kind' of glass you're looking for?
  20. They aren't 'bad ideas' at all. But there's only so much that the PdN Team can do... Especially since it's the spare time of ... three(?) people at best. (excluding plugin authors) >_>
  21. It's a software used to make fractals. For more info on it: http://www.btinternet.com/~ndesprez/
  22. That tops out on the funky fresh scale! Colorful! --- Though the text in your signature displeases me. ... Could you make it more organized? Pretty pretty please?
  23. Ohh, ok I get it now. Sorry about the confusion. Those exact colors, eh? My best suggestion would be to experiment with Reflect, Glow, Overlay, and all the other blend modes.
