  1. The banner you link to was made in Adobe Flash, a professional animation tool. Paint.NET was not made with animation in mind, Flash however, is. Adobe Flash is included in the Adobe Web premium suite, which costs some 1700$ (according to Adobe). However, some forum members were able to get for way less due tobeing in college or buying an older version.

  2. There is no way to do such a thing if you want to keep it on the same resolution. However, you can resize the image so that the "pixelized" blocks back to the size of 1 pixel. For example, if you have a 500x500px image, and you applied the pixalize effect with both sliders on 10, you can make the image 10x smaller (50x50) and have a "normal" quality picture. It will, of course, be smaller.

  3. Besides, whatever the password is that gets entered, it appears to be encrypted with an algorithm like SHA1 or MD5, and only that result is stored in the database. This means a password can be just about anything a person wants, and the encryption routine will generate a string that is more than adequate.

Even though encryption takes place, people can still type in your password. Encryption only protects the password from being stolen from the database and used directly. If I were to retreive your password from the database - Let's say the password is "dog" - I'd get "e49512524f47b4138d850c9d9d85972927281da0". However, hackers only need to try to crack the sha-1 with a Rainbow Table, and it'll be hacked. Considering "dog" is only three letters, it'll take less then an hour to crack.

I cannot say why this has been implemented, but I didn't experience it. I guess it's to stimulate people to get more difficult passwords, that are harder to guess, considering about half of the MySpace passwords are a normal word of 7 letters with a 1 behind it.

  4. Okay, so here is my entry. Let;s overview the lot first.

And here are the full detail shots.

    Details:

Windhoos is Dutch for a huge amount of wind all in one time coming towards you. The weather kind of wind. Not the one you are thinking about.

All the names in the addressbook are related to Winnie the Pooh, but in Dutch. For example, Christopher Robinson = Janneman Robinson.

Only one stock, used for the overview/ad:

  5. Your thread title seems somewhat generic, please read Rule 6 of the forum rules, and change the title accordingly to prevent having this thread locked.

For your question, there are a few reasons:

1: Forumer won't allow you to acces their server to hack the PHPBB forum stuff.

2: It'd take centuries to code. (That's programmer talk for weeks.)

3: PDN files aren't the smallest sort, and we want to keep the people with low bandwidth to go on here without having to plough through 200mb of pictures.

On top of that, for transparency, you can always use 32bit PNGs.

  6. Yes, Paint.NET can be used to make/edit the image of the map. Paint.NET will not make the code for for you, however. What I would recommend is getting the Adobe/Macromedia Flash CS3 demo, and make the map there, as it's much simpler to do since you've got 50 states to work with, which is a large amount, and not very doable on your level of web development.

  7. Ah, this was a fun one.

    Full view.

"But Stephan," you might say, "you challenged us to make this a real wordpress theme claiming you're the master of everything except for Chuck Norris (which remains true until further notice), wouldn't it be hypocritical not to do so yourself?"

I would reply: "Well, seeing as I am the master of everything (apart from Chuck Norris), and very believe that any form of hypocrisy should be tackled with a 45 kg sledgehammer, I made one."

The theme (while in development) is available for free. Download these files:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/137145701/r ... g.zip.html

    http://rapidshare.com/files/137145811/j ... t.zip.html

Unzip them, place the javascript folder into your main wordpress directory, and the ricks_blog in wp_content\themes, and select the theme in the wordpress admin account.

If you don't want to download it, just go to http://stephanheijl.co.cc/ricks_blog/ and log in as:

    Username: pdnguest

    Password: pdnguest

    to post some stuff.

  8. Hello Fluffaloo, even though this not your first post, I'd still want to welcome you to the forums first.

Now, for your request. I'm afraid that Zoom Blur Deluxe has been superseded by Paint.NET's built in Zoom Blur. It can be found under Effects->Blurs->Zoom Blur.

If this is not in your list, I'm afraid that you are acting against forums rule number 7. Please upgrade as fast as you can, by going to Help->Check for Updates->Options and checking "Automatically check for newer versions", to keep up.

Good luck, and I hope to see that tutorial soon, as long as it complies with the tutorial guidelines.

  9. To install it correctly, drag the installer file from the zip folder to your desktop. Then click on it.

    :!: Hard explanation :!: :

From within the zip-folder the installer cannot reach most of your computer's settings. Therefore, the file needs to be placed directly on your computer instead of running it from your appdate/temp folder.

  10. Are you kidding? Paint.NET is nice, but it's not magic... Neither is photoshop, or any other raster graphics editor. What you're requesting goes against the laws of... Well, nature. If it was just text, okay, but this effect cannot be achieved if you ask me.

Really? To what are you referring? The resizing (doubtful) or keeping the resolution sharp so that it does not look blurred?

I have a lot to learn when it comes to image manipulation programs, however I find it hard to believe that just as you can shrink pictures and keep their sharpness that one cannot do the reverse. This is just a statement and not a challenge, OK!

So all that computer wizardry that goes on in CSI Miami, Vegas, etc. is nonsense!?

What they're showing there isn't the picture being magically readjusting... That's because they take a full high res picture, but only cache a smaller version. When they "enlarge" the picture, they're actually just zooming in like you would when you open a picture and zoom in to see someone's head or an object more clearly. No magic involved.
