  1. I happen to agree with you there. I am not even close to being able to create a tutorial, and yet there are those have great ideas. Case in point: A noob pointed out a good way to make a background transparent that many experienced users didn't come up with. And sometimes moderators get a little too into locking forums. I know I have inadvertently hijacked a thread and a member politely told me I was doing so and pointed me in the right direction. Maybe the best solution to the noob tutorial situation is create a noob tutorial thread, allowing those with less than 30 posts to create tutorials without getting their thread locked  Maybe there is a happy medium between trolls and terse criticism from moderators. I believe in a world where noobs and experts peacefully coexist, where we bite our food, not our noobs! (sorry, bad 2 year old humor)
  2. Hmm... There must be a couple of factors that have affected me to like this forum:I developed a thick skin after being bashed incessantly in the Stargate Information Archive Forum(Some real trolls on that site), I haven't visited enough of the forum, or I am truly oblivious to what is going on around me. I, too, am a bit older than most of the members who post. I do believe that maturity has to do with part of the issue, or from our generation to theirs senses of humor have truly changed. I personally like one of the younger posters (I'm a bit sarcastic myself) though some of his posts can hit a nerve for some. As a teacher I have learned that communication is essential. If we can keep our criticism constructive, and take others opinions with an open mind, this will be one of the best forums out there. It already is for me
  3. I'm sorry, this might have sounded rude, like it should be known because everyone else does. I didn't mean it to come across as that. If you thought it did come across as that.I'm not a pretentious and arrogant buffoon, I sear. I know you're not  I sadly am one of those people who should know all the grammatical rules, but they have slowly seeped out of my brain, trying to learn all these new tutorials on the forum (must make room)
  4. Thanks for clarifying our mutual point. My point often gets lost along with my train of thought.
  5. Wow! So many awesome entries! Nice job with this contest Rubrica! DarkShock, I think your entry is cool. Definitely not the worst. I'd be proud if it was mine
  6. I recently did this with a banner I made for my wife's website, and I guess it is a good workaround. I have recently realized you can copy and paste with Paint.Net. It would be nice if eventually you can just drop an added layer, and not worry about it resizing your background!
  7. No, the new version of OO can do a drop-shadow. Yeah, I was playing around with some text I wanted to outline, played with the new settings, and bam! It's a two in one deal, drop shadow and outline! Nice job Pyro!
  8. I don't know if it falls into the same category, but I would like it if the added layer wouldn't affect the background layer's canvas. An example is I have, say a 100x100 background image, and the added layer is 800x600. The new layer would dwarf the original, and the original layer would have an added area, often filled with the the primary or secondary color you chose. I don't want to expand the original, due to the loss of quality if this was done. This is possible in Artweaver, as well as PSP. If there is a workaround I missed, let me know.
  9. Thanks for clarifying. In my search for the perfect image editor, I tried PSP and Serif, which had what you just described. I see their usefulness, but I guess I'm not that efficient yet, since I haven't found a time I have needed it. ( Not looking for a pity party, but am not the most talented person on the forum, or versed for that matter).
  10. when you say masks, are you referring to layer masks or something like an alpha mask? Paint.Net is awesome with the alpha mask, can create text with pictures showing through, etc. Have you tried Shape 3d, it's awesome, as well as countless other plugins, can't name them all! Have fun while you're here, best forum I have ever belonged to.
  11. Sorry, I assumed that it had to do with an angry noob. After Pyrochild's thoughts on a "pitcher" (which I found to be very funny), I thought it had to do with a noob quote on the forum.
  12. I unfortunately am one of those people who don't read all the rules, and sometimes am sidetracked and may accidentally hijack a thread. Fortunately I was politely reminded that I was going off topic and was back again. However, I saw a little bashing myself because someone wasn't happy with a tutorial, or at least the excuse of why it may not be the best. It had screenshots, was very descriptive, and was done by an 11 year old.(Not that impressive on this forum, I guess.) But, I guess from "proud imbusale" slogan some are carrying, there are some noobs that give the rest of us a bad name (I'm saying the one calling others an imbusale is a bad noob). Did I just fall off my train of thought again? Sorry, old age or the fact I work with 2 year olds all day long!
  13. That's probably because the object you're outlining has some thin parts, in which case you'll just need to turn down softness. Thanks! I realized this new update works better for me. I played with the settings with the last version, and the softness and width adjustments seemed to be the same, not giving me the result this one does. Keep up the good work! Happy Holidays!
  14. Hi Pyro! Nice job with the new plugin. Missed your character on the last update. I have a question: I have noticed when using the outline plugin that it doesn't always evenly outline the item that is being outlined. Is there a setting I need to adjust, or is it just to be expected?
  15. It's the best christmas present ever! Thanks Rick! Love the new layout!
  16. No it won't be. HD Photo is an MS format. JPEG XR will be open format same as JPG is and free to use. A) It's under consideration as a JPEG format. Not quite there yet... Though Microsoft has stated that it will be licensed under their Open Specification Promise, that has also not yet happened. I recently read an article that stated it was free to use in PS CS2 and CS3 (JXR) and microsoft offers it as a download. Someone gave me the link : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta%20...%20layLang=en.
  17. Well, our hard work finally paid off. Download.com removed the offending software. It's nice to know that one's opinion does really count on sites like that.
  18. I know there are better entries, but this idea came to mind and wanted to give it a try.
  19. I just submitted a harsh comment on that pirated piece of garbage. It is unfortunately not past CNET to put garbarge to download on their site. I have downloaded cd burning software with adware at this site (deepburner for example). I am sure you'll have no problem getting the scathing reviews you're looking for, if anyone who is on this thread is online in the next couple of days! Good Luck!
  20. Sorry! I didn't see it mentioned, but I was looking for a screen capture utility, and found Zscreen, which uses Paint.Net as one of the choices for image editing your screen captures, as well as Microsoft Paint and I believe Paint Shop Pro.
  21. Because I wanted to see how much he screwed PDN up. He screwed it up worse than Paint Shop Pro. @ BoltBait, Norton scans the computer pretty often anyways. I installed PSP 9 to compare, but it didn't interfere with PDN. And Norton 2002 used to screw up my comp (CPU killer!) and missed stuff. Avast doesn't Kill CPU's and catches stuff. Oh, and it's free! http://www.avast.com
  22. Sorry, forgot to post links. I just edited my last post. Links should work, they work for me!
  23. If you're looking for a good uninstaller program, look into Revo Uninstaller.(http://www.revouninstaller.com) After uninstalling the program, you will be able to remove registry entries. Regseeker is a quick and easy reg scanner which can double check to see if it's all removed .(http://www.hoverdesk.net/dl/en/RegSeeker.zip) Threatfire can scan for rootkits. http://www.threatfire.com/download Hope this isn't spamming, just thought this information would be helpful.
  24. Well, I don't consider this double posting, since it was a few days ago that I last posted, but experimenting with alpha mask 1.2, I discovered that I could mask a layer, and if the layer below was black, it could show through or be covered up, depending if the new feature was checked. I'll experiment more.
