  1. Problem solved, after the install failed I checked my temp files I was able to execute the "SetupFrontEnd.exe" in the "PdnSetup" folder. It ran thru the set up without an issue. I hope this might be of some help to others with the same issue. Of course this still does not answer the question as to why this was happening. Bob, thank you for your help and input. Dave...
  2. Addendum: I also deleted Paint.net from the registry and tried to reinstall, no difference.
  3. (All Users) Adobe Reader is the first item listed. with the exceptions of Cosmi Contact Mgr and the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility all other entries begin with (All Users) these two items have nothing in front of them. I don't have any items listed that I would consider obscure. Dave...
  4. while attempting to update to 3.01 I received several errors that prevented me from installing 3.01 or from reinstalling 2.72. I attempted the windows clean up utility but Paint.net was not listed. I also repaired the .net 2.0 thinking that was the problem to no avail. I am running XP, P-4 CPU 3GHz with a gig of ram these first two come up at the same time. 1. MirrorShim.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. 2. SetupShim.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Behind them is the regular install screen, that does allow you to continue. to the license agreement page, Then another error stating 3. Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application, If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. "Could not find file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Temp\PdnSetup\PaintDotNet.msi'." Clicking continue shows the "Paint.Net is being installed..." This screen hangs forever with the Cancel, Back and Next buttons greyed out. Any Ideas? Thanks
