....so many questions and so few answers! No, I don't think that it does use Twain. I have this expectation - naive perhaps - that if stuff works well with basic open source programmes like OO it will work OK in something like paint.net. It certainly works fine in Irfan View.

It takes it's power from the USB. that doesn't seem to be a problem with other apps. This version is bang up to date. The scanner does show up in the Control Panel. The drivers appear to be up to date. It is a canoscan Lide 55. Thanks for any further help. Queensparker

This a new-ish scanner that works fine in my Windows XP system and is recognised by OpenOffice and MS Document Imaging etc. But the Paint.net acquire menu is greyed out. I checked the usual causes of this problem through the FAQ's and none apply. It looks as if someone else had this problem in the past but never got an answer on the Forum, so maybe I will get lucky this time! Any help gratefully received. Queensparker
