Thats a good idea! You could maybe chalenge them to try to change their hair color, while still making it look real, or somehow replace their eyes with animal eyes or somthing like that.

you can use the bubble tutorial to make somthing, it would be good to teach about layers

didn't you mean a reflection, because there is no change to the letters

what does the three even stand for?

1.create a gradient from a light shade, to the darker shade 2.gaussian blur to whatever your liking Then play around with it a bit, and you can do the gradients in different directions

please resize your avatar, its to big. and to put text in, use the text tool, if you don't know how to use that, read the help page

to flip only part of an image instead of the whole thing using the flip option?
