  1. thank you, the dingbat tip is a big help.. wish paint.net had something like PS' pen tool.. perhaps in a future release?
  2. I've been looking through the forums for help on this topic. I may be searching for the wrong terms. Not sure, however if you look up ornamental design on google images you'll see exactly what I'm looking for. Here is an example. Now I'm looking for a quick way to make multiple types of designs (without having to create overlapping circles and chop portions of them off to create 1 curve like the ones you find in this design. I've tried the spiral plugin and it just doesn't do it for me (sorry MadJik, its still a great plugin). So what is the most practical way to create these swirl/ornamental/flowery patterns?
  3. Paint.net mentioned on msn.com here http://tech.msn.com/howto/articlepcw.aspx?cp-documentid=18346286
  4. Something like the pic below can be done using the "Dents" effect that comes with the Ed-harvey plugins at the link below. http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=26244&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a I started with regular Arial font. There are a ton more customizations with the dents plugin itself...experiment. I used the following settings: Scale 18 Amount 21 Quality 2
  5. amazing! thank you....just when i thought i had explored all the built in effects... the suggested solution works great. thanks again
  6. I'm trying to figure out a simple way to skew an image to show distance and angle, the image below should give you an idea of what I'm looking for... but I want to do it with a photograph. I've tried the oblique tool, its a great plug-in, but skews the whole image directionally in x-y plane. I'm wanting something that includes the z axis/depth perception
  7. another quick option after exporting as jpeg, is to open pic with windows picture viewer, by right-click on pic icon, "Open With > Windows Picture and Fax viewer" (default pic viewer for windows XP and up) and then right-click on pic, select "Set as Desktop background" If you have not changed your default image viewer, you don't have to right click on the icon, just open pic, right click on the pic itself, set as desktop background.
  8. I like the first one. The lighting however appears to be straight from the top...any way to use shadows to change lighting perspective to top right corner? (I'm experimenting on the side right now)....
  9. Here's the one i tried using the drop shadow method mentioned earlier.. I had to repeat the process for the lower part of the image. Here's the one with the sine wave plugin effect. I like this, but it produced jagged edges that had a darker border ' I changed layer properties of the wave alone, changing the blend mode to "lighten." It looked better, but still some jagged edges. I realize its not quite the result i was hoping for, but closer, i need to remake the wave with a more careful blend. It was slightly improved in normal blending with drop shadow and gaussian blur Verdict...i think the sine wave and glow effects worked best at this point...if glow didn't have those jagged edges that would be great. I want to modify the image to the point where the two images are fairly 3D in appearance, with shadows and appropriate lighting along the line..much like the edges of two small pools of paint on a table, the edges of the two pools beside each other...any suggestions?
  10. Here is my attempt at using glow - looks good, not sure why there are jagged edges.. Radius 2, Brightness 94, Contrast 16 here's the one with just using gaussian blur - close, but no cigar here's the one using motion blur, not quite where i want it to be
  11. thank you for the options, I'm going to try all methods mentioned and post the results when I'm done, Thanks again.
  12. I know there is a gradient blur plugin that simulates a feather effect on edges...however, I want to be able to have this effect along a curved line. I attempted to put use the gradient plugin and was unsuccessful. I also tried using the gradient tool to place a transparency gradient along the edges in segments. However after viewing with a background, it looked bad, and simply uneven. I left one segment with that transparency gradient for your viewing. Anyone know how to get it done well? thanks for the help.
  13. my understanding is that reducing the quality (that is, less than 100%) decreases the palette information (colors available to the image), beginning with the least often occuring colors (or colors that don't appear at all). Usually if you save an image as 85+% you should notice very little or no change at all (although you may notice change if you magnify and examine the pixels of the image). hope that helps...if someone else can explain it better, go for it!
  14. looks like what I needed! thank you it does seem that the process is a little longer, but works!thanks again Bolt
  15. anyone that knows what feather is, know the answer to my question?
  16. does Paint.NET have an equivalent feather feature like photoshop?
