  1. I have finally figured-out what causes the IE bug to surface (only took me 2 years ) It's complicated and very boring, but you may be pleased to know that have re-configured the download server and it appears to have stopped the problem... Yay
  2. Ordered, Atkinson and Floyd Steiberg Dithers have now resurfaced in the archives...
  3. Dents is definitely a 'stand-alone' effect. Not so sure about the others (they were built a long time ago), but I think they are also 'stand-alone'...
  4. As a general rule, I don't include things in the main package once we have built them into paint.net. However, it will probably make an appearance in the 'Archives' sometime in the near future
  5. Just chuck both of them in there - It will figure out which one it needs ( If you really care about the extra 20K or so of disk space... FastBlur_x64.dll for 64 bit, FastBlur_x86.dll for 32 bit )
  6. no longer needed... (but if you have some of my old 'stand-alone' effects, they may still need the old version)
  7. Ed is pleased to announce Fast Effects AKA "FastFx". Please us this link until @Ed Harvey can change his links: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ld5k1cqhd98lc10/EdHarvey_Edfects_FastFX_20090519.zip?dl=0 ( Here is a version that works with paint.net V4... EdHarvey-FastFx-4-0-5120.zip ) not working Download here:EdHarvey_Edfects_FastFX_20090519.zip not working These are replacements for existing paint.net effects that have been optimised for speed. How much faster? Lots... In practice, most are pretty-much instantaneous with a moderate sized-image and modern machine... All can be found in the Effects->FastFx menu folder Fast Blur 10 to 200 times faster than 'gaussian blur', depending on radius. Edge handling differs from the paint.net version and this effect does NOT handle alpha 'correctly', otherwise same quality as the built-in effect... Pencil Sketch 15 to 20 times faster. This effect is not exactly the same as the paint.net version, but the results are broadly similar. Glow 8 to 20 times faster. This effect should be visually identical to the paint.net version; although exact pixel values will differ in some places, these differences are small (typically 1 level). Soften Portrait 15 to 40 times faster. This effect should be visually identical to the paint.net version; although exact pixel values will differ in some places, these differences are small (typically 1 level). Hue / Saturation 15 to 50 times faster. This effect is both faster and better behaved than the paint.net version [Edit: since this pack was released, we have incorporated the speed improvements from this version of Hue/Saturation into Paint.Net itself (I can't remember that exact version this change was made, although it was at least a year ago...) The effect remains useful however because it has a different behaviour as described below - we couldn't incorporate that into Paint.Net as it would be a 'breaking change' in functionality ] For example, here is a spectrum/saturation wedge... If we use paint.net to rotate the hue by 71 everthing is ok. But if we rotate hue by 71 and increase saturation to 170, things go rather nasty If we use the fast version... much better (although not as nice as 'Soft Saturation' ) Have fun [edited 2012-01-30: new download link]
  8. This topic supersedes the topic for the previous release ---------------------------------------- At long last I managed to find time to update things and fix all the accrued UI issues 🙂 The latest version of the Ed Harvey Effects package is available here: EdHarveyEffects.zip Note: 'Soft Saturation' has now been renamed 'Vibrance'... Refer HERE if you need more advice on installing plug-ins. Edit 2012-02-13: Added two new pixelate effects... What's new? New Effects Pixelate (Hexagon) Pixelate (Cairo Pentagonal) Adjustments->Vibrance - Increases saturation without nasty color shifts or blowing out highlights & already saturated pixels A few examples (original, vibrance, paint.net saturation) It can also reduce saturation. 9. OK Kids, ENOUGH NAME CALLING! :x If you read the 'error' message it says, "This plugin is now built-in to Paint.NET". It's more of an informational message than a true error. You haven't lost any functionality. All the effects work as advertised, but we have incorporated some of them into Paint.Net since the release of the effects package. If Paint.Net did not block the original version then you would get two identical menu entries for each of these effects - not pretty, or very usable...
  10. Oma is right. There is no need for that tone, despite your obvious frustration... first things first, The server logs and the hundreds of people that download it per day would suggest otherwise. There is no filtering enabled on the server... The fact that you cannot download it does not mean the server is broken! I just checked the logs, and no 404's have been issued in the last month (that weren't otherwise explainable). No. The solution is to find out why you cannot download the file! with those out of the way, I have a couple of questions... [*:t6s8r704]Have all your download attempts been from the same machine? [*:t6s8r704]What browser(s) are you using?
  11. sorry for the slow reply - I've been away on a thoroughly undeserved holiday PolarInversionPlus is no longer in the effects package - I forgot this and accidentally included it when writing the effects list... my bad  We integrated most of the functionality of the original effect into the built-in Polar Inversion effect in Paint.Net v3.30 (last April, I think). If you need the original for the additional options in the 'Edge Behavior' list then you can find it in the Ed Harvey Effects Archive. If you do not need one of these specialised options, then Polar Inversion will fill your requirements just fine.
  12. Paint.Net does not have a tiling system capable of dealing with images this big - I suspect that even GIMP will have difficulty... Depending on your needs and programming ability, VIPS might possibly fit the requirements.
  13. Try right-clicking on the color [Yeah, I know it's not obvious... ]
  14. Paranoia? Nope, he just didn't like the look of you ("sorry guv... can't let you in... more than my job's worth..." ) Or perhaps he just has an irrational fear of tuxedos? Anyhow, I just checked and the new gate-keeper has come on duty so you should be OK now
  15. Yup, the server's currently down for maintenance (or there's smoke coming out - not sure which yet  ) In the meantime, I'll attach it here... Edit: Looks like everything is OK again, original link should work....
  16. If you want the main plug-in package - which has all 30+ effects - it is located here, Ed Harvey Effects v3.5 Edit: 2010-05-04 Modified link to new release.
  17. Download and install the latest version of the effects package - the one you are using is nearly a year old, and doesn't work with the latest versions of Paint.Net (Rick changed some of the Paint.Net internals a while back)...
  18. Ha, you beat me to it Note: The mouse hold/arrow key trick is Windows built-in behaviour so it works pretty much everywhere
  19. [2010-05-03] This version has been superseded - please see Ed Harvey Effects v3.5 What's New? Removed - Color->Posterize (since we have built it into Paint.Net) Added - Stylize->Halftone effect. Added - Stylize->Seismograph effect. Added - Blur->Unfocus+ effect. Added - True Blur now has a Tileable option Added - Extract Channel 'HSV Hue' colored extract added. Added - Dents now has Reseed button. Added - Ripple & Drop Ripple have new parameter Highlight. Improved - faster rendering of Crystalize. Improved - Dents effect amount consistent regardless of 'Detail' and 'Roughness' settings. Improved - Extract Channel Greyscale checkbox is read-only where appropriate. Changed - Dents max amount increased to 200. Changed - Extract Channel 'HSV Hue' grayscale - Pixels with no hue are now shown transparent. Complete List of Effects (new effects highlighted in red, changed effects highlighted in green) Blurs Simplify Splinter Surface Blur True Blur Unfocus+ Color Color Filter Color Channel Flip/Rotate Color Tint Extract Channel Filtered Black and White Invert Intensity Posterize Single Hue Solarize Threshold Vitrious White Balance Distorts Crystallize Dents Drop Ripple Glass Blocks InsideOut Lens MultiView Polar Inversion Plus Ripple Wobble Photo Vignette Render Dither Lattice Textile Weave Stylize Halftone Seismograph Examples of new stuff Halftone Seismograph I made this one by running the effect over a 'Clouds' texture... thought it was a cool abstract texture Unfocus+ First up, the night-time 'beauty' shot. The Original is on the left followed by the built-in Unfocus and then Unfocus+. Unfocus+ produces a result which is more realistic (as seen in the background of almost every night-time film scene) Second up, a high-contrast shot. Notice how the dark areas 'thin-out' and have a more pronounced edge. True Blur - tileable option tile is blurred and then tiled... note the boundaries The Original is on the left followed by the built-in Gaussian Blur and then True Blur with tiling on Edit 2009-04-03: removed PolarInversionPlus from list - see Ed Harvey Effects Archive for more details
  20. You say "it said it didn't recognize them..." Can you be a little more precise - What exactly did it say?
